What is established is that Porsche is developing an electric 718, while its often-cited Boxster E figures belong to a separate experimental program from 2011.
Has the electric 718 Boxster been driven in a published ride review?
The available reporting does not identify the ride account implied by the headline. It does not establish who drove the car, which prototype was used, where the drive took place or what the driver experienced. There is therefore no substantiated basis here for claims about steering, cornering, ride comfort, braking, sound or whether the new EV feels like a Porsche.
That distinction matters: a development prototype seen testing is not the same thing as a documented ride review. Until a verifiable account is available, impressions about how the upcoming car drives should not be presented as fact.
What is confirmed about the new electric 718?
A report published by The Drive on 10 September 2026 described electric 718 prototypes testing at the Nürburgring and said development was continuing (The Drive). Car and Driver reported on 5 August 2026 that Porsche CEO Michael Leiters confirmed the company still intended to build the electric 718 (Car and Driver).

Car and Driver noted that the program had originally been expected on sale in 2025 and described a late-2027 appearance as a possibility. That is reported speculation, not a firm Porsche launch date. The cited current reports do not establish production power, battery capacity, range, price or weight.
What the 2011 Boxster E can—and cannot—tell us
Porsche’s Boxster E was an experimental electric-car program in 2011, not the next-generation 718. Porsche said the Stuttgart electric-mobility trial examined everyday practicality, especially driving and battery charging. Its 24 May 2011 release described one all-wheel-drive prototype, with separate motors at the front and rear, and two rear-wheel-drive prototypes (Porsche Newsroom).

| 2011 Boxster E configuration | Porsche’s published figures | Context |
|---|---|---|
| All-wheel-drive prototype | 180 kW; 540 Nm; 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds; maximum speed 200 km/h | Porsche’s figures for the experimental 2011 car, not the new electric 718. |
| Rear-wheel-drive prototypes | 90 kW; 270 Nm | Porsche’s figures for the experimental 2011 cars, not the new electric 718. |
| Boxster E prototype range and battery | Approximately 170 km NEDC range; 29 kWh energy content, approximately 26 kWh usable | Historical figures for the 2011 prototype; the NEDC range is a dated test-cycle result, not a comparable estimate for the upcoming model. |
Those numbers show what Porsche explored in an earlier electric Boxster project. They cannot be carried forward as specifications or predictions for the production-bound 718. Porsche’s stated purpose for the trial was practical investigation, not a declaration that the older prototype represented the next sports car.

- Final production specifications, including power, battery size, range, weight and price.
- A confirmed production launch date.
- How the car behaves on the road or track, including steering, body control, braking and regenerative braking.
- Whether its driving character preserves the qualities buyers associate with a mid-engined Boxster.
Testing photographs and confirmation that a program remains active do not answer those questions. They establish development activity, not the finished car’s performance or character.
