ElectraMeccanica Solo: What It Cost, and Why It’s No Longer for Sale

ElectraMeccanica’s Solo was a single-seat, three-wheeled EV with a historic $18,500 MSRP. Production ended after a loss-of-propulsion recall and repurchase.

No: the ElectraMeccanica Solo is not an EV you can buy new today, and its old $18,500 MSRP does not establish that it was—or is—the cheapest EV available. Production ended in 2022, and after a loss-of-propulsion recall, the company offered to repurchase every Solo it had retailed. Xos’s 2025 annual filing says the vehicles were discontinued and repurchased and that destruction of remaining inventory was completed in 2024.

What was the ElectraMeccanica Solo?

The Solo was a one-seat, three-wheeled electric commuter vehicle that ElectraMeccanica promoted for commuting, business fleets and vehicle sharing. Its unusual layout distinguished it from conventional passenger cars, but it was still presented as a road-going vehicle rather than simply an electric scooter.

ElectraMeccanica’s legacy product page lists a 144-volt, 17.4-kWh lithium-ion battery, a 56-horsepower liquid-cooled motor, rear-wheel drive and five cubic feet of cargo space. Those details describe the historic product; the still-accessible page does not show that a new vehicle is available to order.

How much did the Solo cost?

ElectraMeccanica’s legacy product page displays an $18,500 MSRP. The undated page, accessed in 2026, excludes taxes, title, destination, government fees, financing charges, dealer processing, electronic filing and emissions-testing charges. It is historical advertised pricing, not a current offer or a reliable measure of today’s cheapest EV.

The claim that the Solo is the cheapest EV a buyer can get now is unsupported: the company discontinued it, and the available evidence does not establish a current, market-specific ranking of EV prices.

What range and speed did ElectraMeccanica claim?

ElectraMeccanica’s undated legacy FAQ advertises a range of up to 100 miles per charge and a top speed of 80 mph. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. The legacy product page and legacy FAQ remain useful for understanding how the vehicle was marketed, but neither establishes present availability.

The Edition 8 owner’s manual estimates four hours to charge fully using 220-volt power and 15 hours using 120-volt power. The manual labels charging and performance figures as estimates and says specifications may change without notice; those times should not be treated as independent measurements or guaranteed results.

Why was the Solo discontinued?

ElectraMeccanica’s 2023 Form 10-K says production stopped at the end of 2022. In February 2023, the company announced a voluntary recall because a technical issue could cause the vehicle to lose propulsion while driving. After investigating, it said it could not determine the issue’s root cause and a fix, then offered to repurchase all 429 Solo EVs retailed since the vehicle’s 2021 release.

Xos’s 2025 annual filing says the previously sold Solos were discontinued, recalled and repurchased because of the loss-of-propulsion issue. It describes the vehicles as subject to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration “do not drive” order. The filing also says plans to commercialize the Solo or E4 were terminated and destruction of remaining inventory was completed in 2024.

Can you buy a used Solo?

The company’s repurchase offer covered the 429 vehicles it had retailed, and Xos later reported that those vehicles were repurchased and remaining inventory was destroyed. The cited filings do not establish that a Solo is currently available from a dealer or private seller. Anyone who encounters a listing should independently confirm the vehicle’s identity, ownership, recall and stop-drive status, and legal road use with the relevant authorities before considering a purchase.

Because the issue involved possible loss of propulsion and a “do not drive” order, an old listing or surviving product page should not be taken as evidence that a particular vehicle is safe to drive. The available record does not establish a repair that resolves the issue.

What the Solo’s old price does—and does not—tell you

The Solo’s $18,500 figure answers what ElectraMeccanica once advertised as its MSRP; it does not answer which EV is cheapest to buy today. A meaningful current comparison would need vehicles actually offered in the buyer’s market, with required fees, passenger capacity, usable range and charging, vehicle classification and insurability, plus dealer, parts and service support. The available evidence does not support naming a present-day cheapest EV.
