PerthNow reported that photographs taken in East Victoria Park showed a white Toyota hatchback with more than 16 parking notices for allegedly exceeding a car-park time limit. The first notice was reported as $65, but the story did not confirm that the driver or owner owed—or paid—more than $1,000.
What the photographs reportedly showed
In a report published on 15 September 2024, PerthNow described photographs of a white Toyota hatchback parked outside Priceline Pharmacy in East Victoria Park. The notices alleged that the car had exceeded the bay’s time limit.
PerthNow reported more than 16 notices, said they were issued on 12 September 2024, and identified Parking Enforcement Services as the issuer. The report said the company issued notices on behalf of commercial car parks.
What the reported amounts do—and do not—show
The first notice was reported to show an amount of $65. PerthNow suggested that the total could exceed $1,000, but that was an estimate based on the reported notices, not a confirmed balance, payment, or amount legally owed.

The report did not establish how long the car had been parked, whether its owner received or paid the notices, or whether any notice was contested or enforced. It also did not say why the car remained there.
Could these notices be enforced?
PerthNow relayed a statement attributed to Parking Australia: “only courts and governments can charge and impose penalties for illegal parking”. The report did not name an individual speaker or explain how that general statement applied to the notices shown in the photographs. It therefore does not settle whether these particular notices could be enforced.

The story also relayed public speculation about enforceability, but offered no case-specific legal finding. The photographs and report alone do not establish the notices’ legal status or what happened afterward.
