What is the HUMMER EV EarthCruiser?
It is a chassis-integrated overland camper upfit designed for the GMC HUMMER EV Pickup, rather than a standalone recreational vehicle or a removable camper. GMC and EarthCruiser announced development work on an electric-vehicle overland upfit on March 30, 2023. EarthCruiser unveiled the HUMMER EV EarthCruiser on August 24, 2023, and planned to display it at Overland Expo Mountain West from August 25–27 that year. EarthCruiser founder and CEO Lance Gillies described the collaboration this way: “It feels right, it feels like it belongs.” That is his view of the design, not an independent assessment of the product. EarthCruiser’s August 2023 announcement described the electrical system as 6kWh at 12V. The current product page instead specifies 460Ah at 12V, which works out to approximately 5.5kWh by nominal arithmetic before losses. Those are separate, dated manufacturer descriptions; the page does not explain the difference. EarthCruiser’s announcement also estimated up to seven days of off-grid power, including running the refrigerator/freezer for about a week. That is a company estimate, not a guaranteed duration or an independently verified result. EarthCruiser’s October 14, 2025 company update says it relaunched after winding down its original Bend factory and moved toward partner-driven manufacturing, with professional upfitters completing builds. The update does not confirm continued production or sales of this specific HUMMER EV package. EarthCruiser says the upfit is not covered by GM’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty and that GM is not responsible for modifications made by independent suppliers. GMC’s May 15, 2025 announcement introduced features for the 2026 HUMMER EV and said production would begin later in 2025, with dealer availability expected later that year. It also described bidirectional charging for properly equipped vehicles, with some capabilities requiring separately purchased equipment. That is information about the base truck, not confirmation that this camper supports those features or fits every later model year.
