The production bike pairs a 449.6 cc single-cylinder engine with Desmodromic valve timing and an aluminium frame; Ducati later introduced a more race-equipped Factory version in January 2026. Here is what Ducati has specified, how the two versions differ, and what the company’s competition timeline says.
What Ducati revealed—and when
The Desmo450 MX was more than a concept announcement. Ducati said selected dealers could take orders when it unveiled the motorcycle on April 3, 2025. The company’s initial plan called for a European rollout from June, followed by North America and other markets. Its later development timeline records production starting on May 26, 2025, and a dealership-arrival announcement on July 24. Those are separate milestones: the planned June timing was not the same as the subsequently recorded July dealer announcement. Ducati’s launch announcement and development timeline document the dates.
The project extends Ducati’s racing identity into motocross, but its claims about ease of use and performance remain the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent test findings. In the launch release, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali explained the expansion this way: “The answer is simple: Ducati is a healthy company that generates resources, therefore has the opportunity to grow by opening up to a new segment of enthusiasts,”
What makes the Desmo450 MX distinct?
Desmodromic engine and torque delivery
The 449.6 cc engine uses Ducati’s Desmodromic valve timing. Ducati’s launch material describes it as designed for high-rev capability alongside useful low-rpm torque, and says the engine delivers 70% of its maximum torque at 4,200 rpm. Ducati argues this delivery can reduce rider effort and gear changes; that is the company’s explanation, not a verified comparison against other motocross bikes. Ducati’s April 2025 release

Frame, suspension and brakes
Ducati says the standard model’s aluminium perimeter frame is made from 11 elements. The Canadian MY26 product page lists a 49 mm Showa fork with 310 mm of travel, 301 mm total wheel travel, and Brembo braking components paired with Galfer discs measuring 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear. These are Ducati-published specifications, not independent measurements. Ducati Canada’s MY26 specifications
Traction control and app settings
Ducati says its traction-control system estimates rear-wheel slip from camshaft rotation speed and inertial measurements of vehicle dynamics. The company designed the system to avoid intervening in situations it considers unsuitable, including jumps. The standard bike has two riding modes; throttle response, traction control, engine braking and launch control can be customized using Ducati’s X-Link app. Ducati lists the WiFi connectivity unit required for this setup as an accessory on the standard model. How racing shaped the launch
Ducati’s timeline traces the project to 2021, followed by a public commitment to Italian Pro Prestige MX1 in 2023. The development bike then carried Alessandro Lupino to the 2024 Italian MX1 championship title, according to Ducati. In 2025, the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team debuted in the MXGP World Championship with Jeremy Seewer and Mattia Guadagnini. Ducati says the team recorded two holeshots in its opening races. These are the manufacturer’s reported milestones and results. Ducati’s development timeline
Ducati’s original launch release also says Seewer and Guadagnini won holeshots in their MXGP debut on a production engine fitted with the complete Akrapovič exhaust. The company says that exhaust is available to enthusiasts through its Performance catalogue. This establishes Ducati’s stated connection between the racing setup and the offered part, but does not establish retail stock or fitment for every model year. Ducati’s launch announcement
