The 2025 Cadillac Escalade is a substantial refresh of a familiar formula, not an all-new generation: a 55-inch curved display, revised exterior styling, a 420-hp V-8 and standard Super Cruise keep it at the center of the full-size luxury-SUV conversation. A MotorTrend test found its Sport Platinum 4WD comfortable and composed, but also expensive, thirsty and slower to 60 mph than the rival SUVs in that comparison. “Most important” is best understood as an editorial judgment about the Escalade’s flagship role and longevity—not a verified current sales ranking.
What changed for the 2025 Escalade?
Cadillac announced the 2025 model on July 17, 2024, as a refresh to the gas-powered Escalade. The exterior gets a bolder front end and vertical lighting details, while the cabin’s focal point is a curved display spanning the dashboard. Cadillac also offered 24-inch wheels, which it described as the largest ever available on an Escalade. The design takes cues from newer electric Cadillacs, but the gas Escalade remains its own model. The 2025 lineup has six trims: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, Sport Platinum and V-Series. Cadillac’s launch announcement listed a starting MSRP of $89,590 including destination, before tax, title, license and dealer fees; it also noted that Luxury would arrive later and that dealers set final prices. That is launch-period pricing from 2024, not a current quote or an October 2026 transaction price.

Inside, the 55-inch total-diagonal display is the standout visual feature. Cadillac lists seating for up to eight, a standard 19-speaker AKG audio system, and an available 36-speaker reference system that rises to 40 speakers with the Executive Second Row package. Equipment can vary by trim and package.

Power, towing and fuel economy
Gas Escalade and Escalade-V
The standard gas Escalade uses a 6.2-liter V-8 producing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. The Escalade-V is a separate high-performance version with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 rated at 682 hp. These figures describe different versions; the V’s output should not be read as the standard engine’s rating.
Maximum towing depends on configuration
Cadillac’s 2025 North American specifications list maximum trailering capacity of up to 8,100 pounds for a 2WD standard Escalade and up to 8,000 pounds for a 2WD Escalade ESV. Those are configuration-specific maximums, not guarantees for every vehicle. Drivetrain, passengers, cargo and options affect an individual Escalade’s capacity; check the vehicle’s ratings and towing requirements before hauling.

Tested fuel economy is not a lineup-wide figure
Cadillac’s 2025 announcement said EPA-estimated fuel-economy figures were not yet available. MotorTrend reported 14/18/16 mpg city/highway/combined for its specific Sport Platinum 4WD test vehicle. That result belongs to that tested configuration and should not be applied to every trim or drivetrain. MotorTrend’s first test of the 2025 Escalade Sport Platinum 4WD

The ESV is the extended-body Escalade. Cadillac’s published cargo and third-row legroom figures show the practical difference:

| Measurement | Escalade | Escalade ESV |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo behind third row | 25.5 cu. ft. | 41.5 cu. ft. |
| Cargo behind second row | 72.9 cu. ft. | 94.1 cu. ft. |
| Cargo behind first row | 121 cu. ft. | 142.8 cu. ft. |
| Third-row legroom | 34.9 in. | 36.6 in. |
The ESV adds cargo space behind all three rows and 1.7 inches of listed third-row legroom. Choose it when the additional room matters more than keeping the vehicle’s exterior footprint shorter.
What did the independent road test find?
MotorTrend writer Eric Tingwall tested a 2025 Escalade Sport Platinum 4WD in a review published June 18, 2025. That vehicle had a $122,595 base price and cost $125,020 as tested. The results below are measurements for that particular vehicle, not a promise for every Escalade:
Rank #4
- 1/24 scale measuring 8.5 x 3 x 3 inches
- Made of Diecast Metal with plastic parts and rubber tires
- Openable front doors and lift gate
- Pre-built model, not a Remote Car, not a building kit
| Test result | MotorTrend’s Sport Platinum 4WD |
|---|---|
| 0–60 mph | 6.2 seconds |
| Quarter-mile | 14.6 seconds at 95.8 mph |
| Braking, 60–0 mph | 117 feet |
| Lateral acceleration | 0.71 g |
| Fuel economy | 14/18/16 mpg city/highway/combined |
Tingwall praised the cabin’s comfort, the SUV’s composed dynamics and its standard Super Cruise system. He also found the tested Escalade more than a second slower to 60 mph than the Lincoln Navigator and Jeep Grand Wagoneer in the acceleration comparison, and said its 24-inch wheels compromised ride quality compared with smaller wheels. He found the audio system underwhelming in that test vehicle. These are reviewer findings about one configuration, not universal owner experience or a complete comparison of every trim and model year.
Does the 2025 Escalade have Super Cruise?
Cadillac’s launch announcement said Super Cruise was standard on all 2025 Escalade trims and included a three-year OnStar Super Cruise plan. The system is hands-free driver assistance on compatible roads, not autonomous driving: the driver must remain attentive and responsible for safe operation. Cadillac also says service depends on an active plan and connectivity, and a paid plan is required after the included period. Plan terms and road coverage can change, so confirm current details with Cadillac before relying on them. Cadillac’s 2025 Escalade announcement

Why the Escalade remains consequential—and what “most important” means
The Escalade’s importance is supported by its role as Cadillac’s full-size luxury flagship, its five-generation lineage as described by the company, and a long-running market position claimed by Cadillac. In its July 2024 announcement, the automaker called it the best-selling luxury full-size SUV in North America since 2014 and said more than one million units had sold globally. Those are Cadillac’s dated claims, not proof of a current independent sales ranking. The reviewed evidence does not establish a present-day rank or quantify the Escalade’s cultural influence.
The case for calling it defining is therefore partly interpretation: the 2025 model continues to combine a large, formal luxury-SUV presence with high-output V-8 options, substantial towing capacity, a highly visible cabin display and hands-free driver assistance. That combination makes it a useful reference point for the segment, even though the available acceleration comparison does not make it the quickest rival and its launch pricing and tested fuel economy underline the cost of the formula.
Where the gas Escalade fits in the lineup
This review concerns the gas-powered Escalade family: the standard-length Escalade, longer ESV and high-performance Escalade-V. The electric Escalade IQ is a separately positioned model and is not covered by the gas-engine, towing or road-test figures here. For a buyer choosing among gas models, the central decision is body length and equipment: the standard Escalade already offers three rows and substantial cargo volume, while the ESV is the clear choice when carrying more luggage behind occupied rows is a priority.
