The 2023 Buick Enclave Avenir makes a persuasive case as one of GM’s best family crossovers if your priorities are a quiet ride, generous passenger space and useful cargo capacity. Its 310-hp V-6 adds confident power. But “best” is a judgment, not an objective ranking: reviewers also called out dated technology and questioned whether the Enclave’s premium positioning holds up against rivals.
What makes the Enclave Avenir a strong family crossover?
Buick offered the 2023 Enclave in Essence, Premium and Avenir trims. All seat up to seven and use a 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 310 horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is available. Buick’s 2023 Enclave specifications and brochure provide the equipment and capacity figures below.

The cargo figures are useful because they show the trade-off between carrying passengers and bulky items: the Enclave offers space behind the third row for everyday bags, with substantially more room available when the third row is folded. The 5,000-pound maximum trailering figure is conditional, not a blanket rating for every Enclave. Equipment and passenger and cargo loads affect the rating, so confirm the specific vehicle’s limits before towing.
How comfortable and powerful is it?
Car and Driver described the Enclave as comfortable and quiet, and praised its usable cargo space. Those are reviewer impressions rather than measured manufacturer specifications, but they align with the vehicle’s emphasis on family travel and a spacious cabin. The V-6’s 310 hp gives the Enclave a substantial powertrain for a three-row crossover; available comparative acceleration figures are not established here.

The Avenir adds upscale trim details, including black ice chrome grille mesh, 20-inch Pearl Nickel wheels, rain-sensing wipers, clear taillamps and wood-tone accents. Buick also offered a continuously variable real-time damping suspension, but it is available equipment rather than a feature to assume is fitted to every Avenir.
What is the 2023 Enclave’s fuel economy?
Buick’s EPA estimates are 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for front-wheel-drive models, and 17 city/25 highway for all-wheel-drive models. Separately, Car and Driver recorded 25 mpg in its all-wheel-drive Avenir on a 75-mph highway route. That is one publication’s test result, not an EPA estimate or a guarantee of real-world economy.

Does the Avenir justify its premium position?
The case for the Avenir is strongest if you value space, ride comfort and its extra trim details. The case is less clear if you expect the technology and finish of a luxury-brand vehicle. Car and Driver judged the Enclave short of luxury-branded rivals; Cars.com reviewer Brian Normile praised the room and comfort but criticized the dated technology and premium pitch. These are independent review judgments, not specifications, and do not establish that every competing model is better in every respect.
Car and Driver names the Acura MDX, Infiniti QX60, Kia Telluride and Jeep Grand Cherokee L as relevant comparisons. Compare specific trims and equipment rather than treating the model names as direct price equivalents. In particular, verify whether driver-assistance equipment such as adaptive cruise control is actually included: Buick’s brochure shows it tied to certain packages or trims, not universally standard throughout the Enclave line. Buick also cautions that driver-assistance features do not replace the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle safely.

For a used 2023 Avenir, current asking prices depend on location, mileage, condition and equipment. A comparison with new-car prices or an older review’s original pricing would not answer what a particular example is worth today; check local listings and inspect the specific vehicle’s configuration.

It can reasonably be called a strong GM crossover for buyers who put passenger room, cargo capacity and a comfortable ride ahead of the newest infotainment or a luxury-brand badge. The evidence supports that narrower verdict, not an objective ranking of every GM crossover. If cutting-edge cabin technology or the strongest luxury-brand finish is your priority, compare the Enclave directly with similarly sized alternatives before deciding.
