The redesigned 2025 BMW X3 30 xDrive makes a stronger impression with its styling and cabin than with its driving manners—at least in the M Sport-equipped car tested for a week. That X3 felt grippy and balanced in corners, but its ride was busy, its steering numb, and its four-cylinder engine noisier than expected. Those criticisms apply to this specific test car and its optional 21-inch staggered tire setup, not automatically to every X3 30.
What the 2025 X3 gets right before you drive it
In David C. Hayman’s July 13, 2025 road test, the new X3’s exterior struck a successful balance: it looked modern and recognizably BMW without abandoning a conventional SUV shape. Inside, the dashboard and curved display make a dramatic first impression, while illuminated trim adds visual character. The front seats were comfortable and supportive during the reviewer’s week with the car.
That visual and cabin appeal matters because the X3’s driving experience did not deliver the same sense of polish in this particular configuration. The contrast is the central finding of the test, rather than a claim that every version of the redesigned X3 behaves identically.
How the tested X3 drove
Ride, steering, and engine refinement
The M Sport-equipped X3 30 xDrive felt busy over the road, with bumps and surface imperfections making themselves apparent instead of being smoothed away. The reviewer found the steering numb in both its lighter and heavier settings: changing the effort did not add much useful feedback. The four-cylinder engine also sounded noisy and less refined than expected.

Touch-sensitive controls were another usability frustration. They contribute to the cabin’s modern presentation, but the reviewer found them less straightforward to use than conventional physical controls.
Cornering grip and response
The X3 felt responsive, balanced, and grippy through corners. That is a genuine strength of the test car, though its optional tire setup may have helped: it wore staggered Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, 255 mm wide at the front and 285 mm at the rear, on 21-inch wheels. The review does not identify an exact Eagle F1 tire model, and this optional fitment should not be treated as the correct replacement specification for every 2025 X3. Check the vehicle’s approved fitment before buying tires.

The test car’s equipment matters
The reviewer drove an X3 30 xDrive with the M Sport package, 21-inch wheels, and staggered performance tires. BMW lists 19-inch wheels with 245-mm tires at all four corners as the standard X3 30 setup. Because the tested car differed from that standard configuration, its ride and grip impressions should not be generalized to all X3 30 models.
BMW also lists Dynamic Damper Control as an option for the X3 30. The review does not establish how that option would change this car’s ride, so it should not be treated as a demonstrated fix for the tester’s busy ride. The M50 xDrive, meanwhile, includes Adaptive M Sport suspension; that is a different model and was not driven for this review.

X3 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive: the published numbers
BMW’s U.S. launch specifications provide a useful powertrain comparison, but not a comparison based on back-to-back driving. Hayman tested the X3 30, not the M50. The acceleration figures below are BMW’s claimed times, not results measured in the review.

The review reports prices of $49,950 for the X3 30 xDrive and $64,700 for the M50 xDrive before destination, which conflict with BMW’s published launch base MSRPs. Check current model-year pricing with BMW or a dealer rather than relying on either set as a current quote.

The M50’s higher output and included suspension hardware make it a distinct proposition on paper. Whether it would address the four-cylinder engine noise or steering concerns in the tested X3 30 is unknown: the reviewer did not drive it, so a claim that it is more satisfying on the road would be speculation.

BMW’s U.S. launch materials list 31.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 67.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The redesigned X3 also brings iDrive 9, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, all discussed in the road test. BMW’s announcement describes standard driver-assistance and parking equipment for the new generation; buyers should consult the equipment list for the specific model and market when comparing vehicles.

Is the 2025 BMW X3 worth buying?
The tested X3 30 xDrive makes its best case with its distinctive new look, comfortable front seats, capable cornering grip, and useful cargo capacity. Its weaknesses—busy ride, numb steering, and noisy engine—are important if you expect the driving experience to match the BMW badge’s athletic promise. The answer depends in part on configuration: the road test’s sharpest criticism is tied to an M Sport car on optional 21-inch staggered tires, while the standard X3 30 uses a smaller, square 19-inch setup.
For a purchase decision, drive the exact trim and wheel-and-tire configuration you intend to buy, paying attention to rough-road comfort, steering feedback, and engine sound at the speeds and surfaces you use most. Do not assume that the untested M50 will resolve the X3 30’s drawbacks; compare it in person if its higher output and included Adaptive M Sport suspension are relevant to you.
