Yes—some Volkswagen Tiguan trims have a 360-degree camera system, which Volkswagen calls Area View. It uses cameras around the vehicle to display a surrounding or overhead view on the infotainment screen. Availability depends on the market, model year, trim and, in some cases, factory options, so a Tiguan’s model name alone does not confirm it has the feature.
What Volkswagen’s Area View does
Area View is a multi-camera system, not simply a rear-view camera. Volkswagen UK describes four cameras capturing the area around the vehicle and sending the images to the infotainment screen. The views can help a driver judge nearby kerbs or parking markings and see around a corner. The exact views and operation can differ by model year and market.
For example, Volkswagen UK’s April 2017 brochure described up to twelve selectable front, rear and side views, with a bird’s-eye view when the optional Discover Navigation Pro system was specified. Which current Tiguan trims have Area View?
Volkswagen’s published fitment differs between the UK and US. The UK trim names and US trim names are not interchangeable, and equipment can change by model year.

How to confirm a specific Tiguan has a 360 camera
- Identify the market and model year. Start with the country where the vehicle was originally sold and its model year; trim equipment varies between markets and years.
- Check the exact trim and factory options. Look for the name “Area View” or “Overhead View Camera.” A listing that says only “rear-view camera” does not establish that it has the multi-camera system.
- Verify the individual vehicle. Check its build sheet or window sticker, or ask an authorized Volkswagen retailer to confirm the factory equipment. Do not rely solely on a generic trim description when the vehicle’s exact specification is available.
How fitment differed on older Tiguans
Older brochures show why model year matters. Volkswagen UK’s December 2020 brochure listed Area View as unavailable on the base Tiguan and optional on Life, Elegance and R-Line. Volkswagen UK’s April 2017 brochure likewise described Area View with Park Assist as optional across models and said it could not be ordered with a rear-view camera. These are historical UK specifications only; they should not be applied to a different year or country.
