Yes. IAR announced support for Tongxin Microelectronics (TMC) THA6 Gen2 automotive MCUs in IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm version 9.60.3 on 22 January 2025. The release notes specifically list the THA6206, with hardware-debug and flash-loader support. That entry does not establish support for every THA6 Gen2 model or for later toolchain versions.
Which THA6 Gen2 device is listed?
IAR’s device-support table for Embedded Workbench for Arm 9.60.3 names the THA6206 under the TMC THA6 family. The table is the specific evidence for device coverage: it should not be read as confirmation that every chip in the THA6 Gen2 series is supported.
For a project using THA6206, check the release notes that match the installed IAR version before relying on support details. The published row discussed here is for version 9.60.3; current or later support is not established by that row. See IAR’s release notes and device support information.
What does IAR 9.60.3 support for THA6206?
The THA6206 row marks two listed capabilities as available and four as unavailable:

| Capability in IAR’s support table | THA6206 in release 9.60.3 |
|---|---|
| Hardware debug support | Yes |
| Flash loader | Yes |
| Header/DDF | No |
| Example projects | No |
| Flash breakpoints | No |
| C-Trust support | No |
These entries describe what IAR lists for this device and release. In particular, a flash loader entry indicates that the table lists flash-loading support; it does not imply that example projects or flash breakpoints are included.
What specifications does IAR give for the THA6 Gen2 series?
In its announcement, IAR describes THA6 Gen2 as a 400 MHz Arm Cortex-R52+ MCU based on Armv8. It says the series integrates GTM 4.1, supports high-resolution PWM, complies with EVITA-Full, and includes hardware resolver-to-digital conversion alongside software decoding. IAR links resolver processing to motor-position sensing and names powertrain, chassis, body systems, and intelligent-driving applications as target areas.

- GM-recommended replacement part for your GM vehicle’s original factory component
- Offering the quality, reliability, and durability of GM OE
- Manufactured to GM OE specification for fit, form, and function
These are specifications and positioning stated by IAR, not independently corroborated silicon details here. The available material does not include an independent THA6206 datasheet. IAR also described the series as “the first Arm Cortex-R52+ ASIL D MCU in China”; the announcement does not provide an external comparative survey substantiating that superlative.
What does the ASIL D claim mean for developers?
IAR says its Embedded Workbench for Arm Functional Safety Edition is TÜV SÜD-certified and supports ISO 26262 ASIL D compliance. The announcement also identifies optimized code generation, integrated debugging, C-STAT static code analysis, and C-RUN runtime analysis as development-environment capabilities.

This is a toolchain claim, not a certification of a complete ECU, MCU, or application built with the tools. Developers still need to address the applicable project safety process, evidence, and assessment; the announcement alone does not establish that a particular product or software project meets ASIL D requirements.

The announcement and version-specific support notes do not establish THA6206 pricing, package variants, retail availability, an evaluation board, or compatible debugger and programmer accessories. They also do not provide independent safety-certification records for the silicon or measured performance results for the toolchain. Treat vendor statements as vendor statements, and verify device coverage against the latest IAR notes before choosing a toolchain for a current project.
