What the reported change means
On the affected new US and Canadian orders described by Engadget on January 23, 2026, Autosteer was no longer included as a standard feature and instead required FSD (Supervised). The report says the change did not apply to existing owners.
This is a time- and market-specific report, not confirmation that every Model 3 or Model Y trim, used vehicle, or order in every country has the same terms. Tesla says feature availability depends on vehicle configuration and location and can change. For a particular purchase, rely on the current order agreement and the vehicle’s eligibility shown in the Tesla app.
Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control are different
Tesla describes Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC) as matching the car’s speed to surrounding traffic. Autosteer assists with steering within a clearly marked lane while using TACC. The reported packaging change separated those functions: TACC remained standard on the affected orders, while Autosteer required the subscription.

That distinction matters if you are comparing what a car can do without a subscription. Standard TACC is not the same as steering assistance, and having TACC does not by itself mean Autosteer is included.
How much FSD costs and who can subscribe
Tesla’s FSD subscription support page, accessed in 2026, lists FSD (Supervised) at $99 per month. Tesla says price and feature availability may change, so confirm the current terms in the app rather than treating that figure as guaranteed for a future purchase or renewal.

Eligible owners can subscribe in the Tesla app or on the vehicle touchscreen. Tesla says the car may need a software update before the features become available. What to check before ordering or subscribing

- Read the order agreement to see whether Autosteer is included or requires FSD (Supervised).

Can you cancel after subscribing?
Tesla says subscribers can cancel at any time through the app. Monthly payments are not prorated: access continues through the remainder of the current billing period, but cancelling does not produce a partial-month refund. The support page reviewed lists availability in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and Croatia. Availability may change, so check the app for the current list.

Autosteer still requires an attentive driver
Autosteer is driver assistance, not autonomous driving. Tesla says drivers must remain alert, keep their hands on the steering wheel, maintain control, and be ready to take over. Tesla describes Autosteer as designed for highways with a center divider, clear lane markings, and no cross-traffic; it should not be used when lane markings are absent, faded, or ambiguous. Follow the vehicle’s instructions and remain responsible for driving at all times.
