Dodge’s first production-car emblem appeared in 1914 on a Dodge Brothers automobile: a DB design built from interlocking triangular geometry. Ram imagery arrived in the 1930s, the angular Fratzog became associated with 1960s and 1970s performance cars, and the ram-head badge returned as Dodge’s modern identity in the 1990s. After Ram became a separate brand in 2010, Dodge revived Fratzog for its electric-performance era, beginning with the 2022 Charger Daytona SRT concept and continuing on current-generation Charger vehicles.
The important distinction for owners is that Dodge did not replace every emblem across every vehicle on one universal date. Hood ornaments, radiator badges, grille emblems, wordmarks and lighting elements often appeared on different model lines at different times.

The first Dodge Brothers emblem
What appeared on the 1914 car
Dodge’s first complete automobile left the plant on November 14, 1914. Dodge’s official history records 249 vehicles built by the end of that year. The early radiator emblem used the initials DB inside interlocking triangular geometry, making it both a name badge and a distinctive piece of hardware.
The Smithsonian’s description says the interlocking triangles are believed to represent the closeness of John and Horace Dodge. That is an interpretation, not a documented designer statement, so it should not be presented as a confirmed explanation of the mark.

Why “Dodge Brothers” disappeared
During the 1920s, the company’s identity shifted from Dodge Brothers toward the shorter Dodge name. Chrysler bought Dodge Brothers for $175 million, and by 1930 the division was known simply as Dodge. A surviving early DB emblem therefore points to the company’s founding-era identity, not merely to a generic vintage Dodge.
How the ram entered Dodge identity
The 1932 leaping-ram ornament
Barrett-Jackson dates Dodge’s leaping-ram hood ornament to 1932. This was an ornament mounted above the bodywork, not yet the single standardized ram-head badge that many people associate with later Dodge vehicles.
Different products, different applications
Ram use varied by body style and model year. Reed Brothers’ chronology shows ram imagery on Dodge trucks around the 1940 model year and through the 1950 models, illustrating why a truck ornament, a car badge and a later grille emblem should not be treated as interchangeable parts.

For a restoration, identify the exact vehicle line before ordering a ram piece. The presence of a ram proves that the vehicle belongs to Dodge’s ram-using period; it does not, by itself, establish the year or guarantee that the part is correct for a particular hood, grille or fender.

What the Fratzog looks like
Fratzog is the name used for Dodge’s three-pointed, angular emblem. Its three delta-shaped elements meet in an equilateral-triangle arrangement, giving the mark a geometric appearance unlike the earlier DB initials or the organic outline of a ram.
Its documented muscle-car scope
Stellantis places the emblem’s introduction on Dodge muscle cars between 1962 and 1976. Enthusiast timelines record the mark more broadly into 1981, so the date depends on whether the question concerns the official muscle-car application or every later use across Dodge vehicles. Neither range should be treated as a single factory-wide changeover for every model.

How to recognize an original-era Fratzog
- Look for three angular points forming one compact triangular symbol.
- Do not confuse it with a ram-head badge viewed from a distance; the Fratzog has no animal features.
- Check the vehicle’s model year, body style and surviving trim together, because emblem placement and availability could vary by line.
- When originality matters, compare the mounting method and finish as well as the outline. A modern decal can reproduce the shape without being an original metal or molded emblem.
The ram-head logo becomes Dodge’s modern standard
The 1990s return
Reed Brothers’ chronology places the present ram-head logo’s appearance in 1993 and its standardization across Dodge vehicles in 1996. Those are useful enthusiast-history guideposts rather than proof that every Dodge changed on the same day. The Viper, among other exceptions, did not follow the ordinary application pattern.
Why the 2010 separation matters
Ram became a standalone brand in 2010. Dodge then moved to a bold wordmark accompanied by two red, slanted racing stripes. A vehicle carrying the ram-head badge may therefore belong to the pre-separation Dodge identity, while a later Dodge carrying the striped wordmark reflects the post-2010 corporate structure.
Why Fratzog returned
The 2022 Charger Daytona SRT concept
Dodge brought back Fratzog on the 2022 Charger Daytona SRT concept with illuminated badges. The revival deliberately connected a historic performance symbol with the brand’s electric-performance direction.

“The return of the Fratzog logo represents the electrified future of Dodge and signifies the brand’s unwavering commitment to its performance heritage.”
Current-generation Charger
Stellantis describes the returned Fratzog as a symbol of Dodge’s next-generation performance vehicles. On the current Charger design, an illuminated badge sits at the center of the signature lighting, turning the emblem into part of the vehicle’s lighting architecture rather than a conventional freestanding badge.
Factory graphics and prices in 2026
Dodge’s February 2026 release lists factory Fratzog dual stripes at a starting U.S. MSRP of $1,695 and a satin-black hood graphic at a starting U.S. MSRP of $395. These are accessory- or appearance-package prices stated for the U.S. market, not universal prices for every country, trim or model year.

Which Dodge logo belongs on a classic car?
- Establish the vehicle’s production period. Use the model year, body style and build information rather than relying only on a previous owner’s description.
- Identify the physical format. A radiator emblem, hood ornament, grille badge, wheel emblem and wordmark are different parts even when they carry related imagery.
- Match the symbol to the period. DB geometry points to the Dodge Brothers era; a leaping ram points to the 1930s and later ram applications; Fratzog points to the performance-emblem era or its modern revival; the ram-head badge belongs mainly to the 1990s-and-later Dodge identity.
- Check model-line exceptions. Truck, car and specialty vehicles did not always change badges together, and the Viper is a documented exception to ordinary ram-head standardization.
- Separate restoration from customization. A reproduction decal may be visually correct for a modern project while still being inappropriate for a concours restoration that requires the original construction and mounting style.
What the symbols communicate
DB geometry
The DB emblem ties the car to the Dodge Brothers name and the company’s earliest production period. Its triangular interlocking design is commonly interpreted as a sign of the brothers’ closeness, but that interpretation remains qualified.
The ram
Ram imagery became a durable Dodge identity through repeated use as an ornament and badge. Because the applications changed by product line, “the ram logo” describes a family of related marks rather than one uninterrupted part number.
Fratzog
Fratzog carries the strongest explicit performance association in Dodge’s logo history. Its original use is linked to muscle cars, while its revival is presented by Dodge and Stellantis as a bridge between performance heritage and electrified, next-generation vehicles.
Buying or reproducing a Fratzog today
The clearest physical product category is a Dodge Fratzog logo decal or vinyl graphic. Dodge’s official racing materials list a “FRATZOG VINYL GRAPHIC,” and current Dodge releases document factory-backed Fratzog stripes and badges.

Common Dodge-logo identification mistakes
- Calling every ram a 1932 ornament. The 1932 date applies to the leaping-ram hood ornament; later ram-head badges are separate developments.
- Treating 1962–1976 as a universal Fratzog cutoff. That range describes Dodge muscle cars in official Stellantis material, while broader enthusiast timelines extend use into 1981.
- Assuming the 1996 ram-head date fits every Dodge. Standardization had exceptions and varied by vehicle line.
- Confusing Dodge and Ram after 2010. Ram’s separation changed the corporate identity and Dodge’s wordmark treatment.
- Assuming a modern Fratzog graphic is an original classic-car part. Shape alone does not establish age, material or authenticity.
