Both use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter SIXPACK inline-six and standard all-wheel drive; older HEMI-era Chargers use different engines and ratings, so the model year matters.
2026 gas Charger R/T vs. Scat Pack
Dodge rates both current gas trims with the same basic engine layout but different output. The R/T uses the standard-output SIXPACK; the Scat Pack uses its high-output version. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

That makes the Scat Pack the more performance-focused choice on paper: it has 130 more horsepower and 63 lb-ft more torque than the R/T, along with the listed performance equipment. Equipment can vary by model year, body style and package, so check the specific car’s window sticker or build sheet.
Do not assume either 2026 gas trim is rear-wheel drive by default. Dodge lists AWD as standard and describes a selectable mode that sends all torque to the rear wheels.

How the HEMI-era trims differed
The badges do not identify one engine across every Charger generation. In Dodge’s 2015 brochure, the R/T had a 5.7L HEMI V8 rated at 370 hp and 395 lb-ft, while the R/T Scat Pack had a 6.4L HEMI V8 rated at 485 hp and 475 lb-ft. The brochure lists AWD as optional on the 2015 R/T; check the exact year and configuration when shopping used.

These are model-year-specific figures, not ratings to apply to all older or newer Chargers. Dodge describes Scat Pack as a performance level rather than the name of a fixed engine. Its 2016 brochure also identifies a 6.4L HEMI and 485 hp for the Scat Pack.

What the badges mean—and what they do not
Dodge explains R/T as “Road and Track.” That is the badge’s stated meaning, not a guarantee that every R/T has track-focused equipment. Dodge says Scat Pack indicates a high level of performance, not a particular engine. Its meaning therefore depends on the Charger’s generation and model year.
Keep Charger Daytona EVs separate
Dodge also uses R/T and Scat Pack names for the electric Charger Daytona. Those cars have electric drive systems, so their figures should not be compared as if they were gas SIXPACK specifications. Dodge’s electric FAQ lists maximum output of 496 hp for the Daytona R/T and 670 hp for the Daytona Scat Pack. It lists estimated range of 308 miles for the R/T and 241 miles for the Scat Pack, or 240 miles with the Track Package.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the 2026 gas R/T if
- You want the current gas Charger’s standard-output SIXPACK rather than the higher-output Scat Pack version.
- You prefer the R/T’s listed output and do not need the Scat Pack’s additional performance equipment.
Choose the 2026 gas Scat Pack if
- You want the higher-output SIXPACK: 550 hp and 531 lb-ft, according to Dodge.
- You value equipment Dodge lists for the trim, including Brembo brakes, performance suspension, Line Lock and Launch Control.
Shopping for a used Charger?
Compare the exact model year and car rather than relying on the badge alone. Verify the engine, output, drivetrain, brakes, suspension, wheels and tires, and installed options against the window sticker or build sheet. A 2015 R/T and R/T Scat Pack, for example, have different HEMI engines and ratings from the 2026 gas models.
Dodge says a purchase of a SIXPACK-powered Charger Scat Pack includes one day of performance driving instruction at Radford Racing School. Confirm eligibility and terms for the vehicle you are considering.
