On July 15, 2024, Xiaomi’s public-relations general manager publicly called a rumored July 16 SU8 unveiling fake. No official SU8 reveal followed in the reporting from that period.
What the rumor claimed
The rumor circulated in mid-July 2024 and said Xiaomi would reveal an SU8 on July 16. The claim was framed around the literal Chinese wording “小米将揭晓SU8” (“Xiaomi will reveal SU8”). The SU8 was presented as a supposed successor to the Xiaomi SU7. Those details were speculation, not an announcement from the company.
What Xiaomi said
Wang Hua, identified by IT之家 as Xiaomi’s public-relations general manager, responded on Weibo with “没有 SU8，假的！” which translates as “No SU8; fake!” The wording appears in IT之家’s July 15, 2024 report and in a Sina Technology Weibo post from the same day. Those outlets are the basis for the quote here; the original post itself was not checked directly, so treat the wording as reported rather than as a verified copy.
The denial addressed the specific claim: a reveal on July 16, 2024. It was a rejection of that claim, not a broader statement about the SU8 name.

Why the circulating image was not an official reveal
The image that spread with the rumor carried clues that it was not a Xiaomi product photo. According to IT之家, it had these features:
- Fine print reading “图片为渲染猜想图” (“image is a speculative rendering”).
- An Autohome watermark, which points to a third-party origin rather than Xiaomi’s own marketing material.
Taken together with the public-relations denial, these details identify the image as a speculative rendering. The reporting does not describe any official SU8 reveal event.

What the English-language coverage added
Gizmochina’s contemporaneous English-language report repeated the SU8 successor framing and also discussed a rumored SUV code name, MX11. That coverage described both as speculation in circulation at the time. It is secondary reporting and does not confirm a vehicle called SU8.
What came later: the YU7
Xiaomi’s 2025 interim report, a primary company document, confirms that the company launched its first SUV, the Xiaomi YU7 Series, in June 2025. The series includes the YU7, YU7 Pro, and YU7 Max. The report says the company received more than 240,000 locked-in orders in the first 18 hours after launch. These are company-reported figures for the YU7 launch. They do not measure the reach of the 2024 SU8 rumor, and the report does not describe the YU7 as the SU8 under another name.

What the denial does and does not settle
The denial settles whether Xiaomi revealed an SU8 on the date the rumor named. It does not establish that the company will never use the name. The reporting available does not include a later SU8-specific statement from Xiaomi, so a current position on that name cannot be stated from it. Readers who need one should check Xiaomi’s official channels directly.
