No. The two Hondas that prompted the million-dollar question reportedly sold for $313,500 and $330,000 at Mecum’s 2026 Las Vegas motorcycle auction. Those figures come from Classic.com, which labels its auction results unofficial; they should not be treated as independently confirmed hammer prices.
What the two Hondas reportedly sold for
Mecum’s Las Vegas Motorcycles 2026 auction ran January 27–31 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the organizer’s event page says it has concluded. Classic.com’s results list both motorcycles as sold on January 31, 2026:
| Motorcycle | Lot | Reported sale price |
|---|---|---|
| 1968 Honda CB750 Prototype | S155 | $313,500, per Classic.com’s unofficial results (lot record) |
| 2004 Honda RC174 George Beale Replica | S232 | $330,000, per Classic.com’s unofficial results (lot record) |
Neither approached $1 million. The price figures are secondary-source reports, not primary-source-confirmed auction results.
Why these two Hondas drew million-dollar speculation
The 1968 CB750 prototype
The CB750 in lot S155 was described as a prototype, not one of the four pre-production display motorcycles later sent to the United States for Honda’s January 1969 dealer show. In its presale preview, New Atlas said this prototype had been sent from Japan in October 1968 and was being offered by collector Vic World. The distinction matters: the preview says the four U.S. display bikes were pre-production examples, correcting its earlier description of them as prototypes.

The RC174 replica
The second motorcycle was a George Beale-built replica of Honda’s RC174 Grand Prix racer. New Atlas describes the original as an air-cooled, four-stroke, 297cc six-cylinder machine ridden by Mike Hailwood to seven wins in seven Grand Prix appearances. The preview says ten replicas were built with Honda’s permission and assistance, and characterized Beale’s example as an exceptionally faithful replica. Those historical and technical details are reported by New Atlas; the sale listing was for a replica, not an original factory race bike.
New Atlas also mentioned a 236-page illustrated book about the replica project and its provenance. The preview did not establish the book’s exact title or edition details, so those should not be inferred from the page count alone.

Forecast and result are different things
The million-dollar framing belonged to the presale discussion. The completed-sale figures now reported by Classic.com are substantially lower: $313,500 for the CB750 prototype and $330,000 for the RC174 replica. Because Classic.com marks its auction data unofficial, the figures are best described as reported sale prices rather than verified hammer prices. The available records also do not establish a broader ranking of the most valuable Hondas ever sold.
