A reported Tesla trade-in estimate for one Cybertruck owner implied a 34% loss over roughly a year. Another owner’s estimate implied 39%. Those are striking individual examples—not evidence that every Cybertruck loses that much, or a verified one-year average for the model.
Current valuation pages offer other reference points, but they measure different things and cannot confirm the owners’ results. To judge what a specific Cybertruck is worth, compare like with like: valuation type, model year and trim, original transaction price, mileage, condition, location, and date.
Where the 34% figure comes from
InsideEVs reported two owner-submitted Tesla trade-in estimates in 2025 that implied losses of 34% and 39% over roughly a year. The original page’s underlying inputs—including each truck’s starting price, trim, mileage, condition, and calculation—could not be verified. The figures should therefore be treated as reported examples, not a representative sample or a controlled measure of Cybertruck depreciation. InsideEVs’ report
A percentage loss depends on both the starting figure and the value being compared with it. A trade-in estimate is not the same as a completed private sale, and neither is automatically comparable with a general depreciation model. Without the owners’ exact inputs, the 34% claim cannot be independently recalculated or matched to a specific Cybertruck configuration.

What current valuation estimates say
Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 Cybertruck depreciation page, accessed in 2026, lists a $70,100 resale estimate and a $67,500 trade-in estimate. Its annual table also lists $82,235 for 2024 and, for 2025, $66,622 resale and $61,758 trade-in. The $82,235 figure is a value shown in that table—not a confirmed purchase price for either owner in the InsideEVs report. Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 Cybertruck estimates
KBB says its estimates draw on similar vehicles and auction forecasts, and cautions that they are not guarantees of actual depreciation. It also notes that mileage, condition, and location affect value. Its figures are useful as a separate reference, but they do not verify the 34% owner example: the starting prices, vehicle details, valuation dates, and value types are not established as matching.

What a longer-term depreciation model adds
iSeeCars estimates Cybertruck depreciation at 56.5% after five years. On the same displayed comparison, it gives 33.3% for pickups and 41.7% for all cars. The company says it analyzed more than 15 million vehicles and models depreciation at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years using the difference between new-car and used-car prices at each age, with automaker and vehicle segment included in its model. iSeeCars’ Cybertruck resale-value and depreciation page
Those modeled five-year figures provide a broad comparison, not a way to validate the reported one-year estimates. KBB’s 2026 resale-value release says an average 2026 model-year vehicle is projected to retain about 45% of its original value after five years. That broad benchmark is based on KBB’s January/February 2026 guide and projected future auction values for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of five years; it is not a Cybertruck-specific one-year comparison. Sales context is not proof of depreciation
Cox Automotive/KBB estimated 4,140 Cybertruck sales in Q4 2025, down 68.1% from 12,991 in Q4 2024. Its report listed 20,237 for 2025 year to date, down 48.1% from 38,965 for the corresponding prior-year period. These are report-period sales estimates, not used-vehicle price changes. - Choose the value you need. A trade-in estimate, private-party resale estimate, dealer offer, and completed sale are different measures. Don’t compare them as if they were interchangeable.
- Match the vehicle. Use the correct model year and trim, then account for mileage, condition, and vehicle history.
- Use your local market and a current date. Valuations can vary by location and change over time; an estimate from another market or date may not reflect a current offer.
- Compare estimates on the same basis. Record the valuation source and type, vehicle details, date, and starting price. Check whether the original figure includes discounts or fees before calculating a percentage loss.
- Get an actual offer if you need a sale price. Online estimates are not guaranteed offers. A dealer or buyer’s offer applies to the specific vehicle and transaction, and may differ from a general estimate.
KBB recommends limiting mileage, keeping the vehicle clean and protected, and performing regular maintenance as general ways to manage depreciation. It does not quantify how much any one step changes a Cybertruck’s resale price.
