Not on the evidence available: Mahindra built the Thar as its own off-road-oriented 4×4, but the official announcements cited here do not show that it is objectively better than the Jeep Wrangler. A fair comparison needs the same market, model year and comparable variants; the available figures describe an India-market 2025 Thar and a North American 2024 Wrangler, not a controlled head-to-head.
What the Thar is—and what the evidence does not prove
Mahindra unveiled the all-new Thar in August 2020, describing it as a third-generation vehicle built on a rugged chassis and tested across challenging terrain. That is the manufacturer’s account of its development, not an independent assessment of how it performs against a Wrangler. Mahindra’s August 2020 announcement quoted then managing director and CEO Pawan Goenka: “That’s why the All-New Thar has been built on a rugged 3rd Generation chassis and tested extensively in some of the harshest terrain in India and across the world.”
Mahindra announced an India-market Thar refresh on October 3, 2025. Stellantis’s cited Wrangler announcement covers updates to the North American 2024 model year and was issued on April 5, 2023. Their different markets and model years make the two releases unsuitable as direct evidence of which SUV is better. Neither supplies a matched independent comparison, comparative test score or verdict on superiority.
What the 2025 India-market Thar announcement specifies
Mahindra’s October 2025 announcement gives these figures for the India-market refresh. They are manufacturer-published, market- and date-specific details, not a complete comparison with a Wrangler.

Why the Wrangler comparison needs a market and trim
Stellantis announced changes for the North American 2024 Wrangler, including equipment updates for Willys and Rubicon variants. Those details cannot be treated as a specification sheet for every Wrangler, or compared directly with a 2025 India-market Thar release. Equipment and availability depend on market, year and trim. Stellantis’s North American 2024 Wrangler announcement is specific to that model-year update.

Before comparing the vehicles, identify the country, model year, body configuration, drivetrain, engine, transmission and trim for each. Then check equivalent versions on the same basis; a broad nameplate comparison can conceal important differences in equipment and price.
How to decide which one is better for your use
“Better” depends on what you need the vehicle to do. A meaningful comparison should answer these questions with specifications and evidence for the particular versions you can buy:

- Ownership: Check local price, availability, warranty and service support for the period in which you plan to buy.
The official announcements cited here do not provide a full matched dataset for those criteria, so they cannot settle the comparison. Use current local specifications and prices for the exact variants under consideration.

No. The U.S. International Trade Commission document concerns Mahindra’s Roxor and FCA’s trade-dress claims. It describes a limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders concerning infringing articles, while also stating that the Commission declined to adjudicate whether redesigned 2020 and post-2020 Roxor vehicles infringed. It is not a finding that the Thar infringed Wrangler design rights, and it does not determine which vehicle is better. The ITC publication addresses the Roxor matter.
