Kadyrov made that accusation in a Telegram post reported by Fortune/Agence France-Presse (AFP) on September 20, 2024. Musk reportedly denied giving Kadyrov the vehicle, and the available reports do not establish either the truck’s provenance or the cause of its alleged breakdown.
What Kadyrov alleged
According to Fortune/AFP, Kadyrov wrote on Telegram on September 19: “Now, recently, Musk remotely disabled the Cybertruck.” He added: “We had to tow the iron horse. How could you do that, Elon?” Those are statements attributed to Kadyrov, not findings from Tesla, an engineer, a diagnostic report or an independent investigator.

Kadyrov also claimed that he had sent the vehicle to Ukraine and that it performed well in combat. Fortune/AFP reported that he had previously posted video of himself driving the electric pickup with what appeared to be a machine gun mounted on its roof, while praising its maneuverability and crew protection. The reporting does not independently verify those combat claims or the vehicle’s condition.

Futurism’s September 22, 2024 follow-up reproduced Musk’s denial that he had donated a Cybertruck to Kadyrov. That denial addresses the alleged gift, not whether a particular truck later stopped operating. The reviewed coverage contains no direct Tesla explanation of the reported incident.

Claims about other Cybertrucks
Futurism reported Kadyrov’s later claim that two other Cybertrucks were unaffected and operating normally. That statement, like the remote-disable allegation, was not independently verified in the reviewed coverage. It does not establish what happened to the first vehicle or identify a cause.

The core evidence is a public allegation and a denial over the vehicle’s origin. Neither Fortune/AFP nor Futurism supplied a vehicle identification number, service invoice, diagnostic log, connectivity record, Tesla response or independent inspection. Without those records, it is not possible to distinguish a genuine remote intervention from an ordinary mechanical, electrical, software, connectivity or other failure—and the available reporting does not establish that any of those explanations occurred.
