Driving footage of the Devel Sixteen exists, and a separate engine-dyno report recorded a 5,007-hp result. But the available footage does not prove that a complete Devel Sixteen produced 5,000 hp on the road, reached its advertised top speed, or completed a verified performance test. Those are different kinds of evidence.
Is the Devel Sixteen test footage finally here?
There is footage described as an early road test. Auto Motor und Sport’s 2021 video page explicitly cautioned that the car’s target performance figures still had to be demonstrated. A newer clip was discussed by TechBloat around mid-2026, but that report does not establish the clip’s origin, date, test conditions, or that it shows a full-power run. Treat it as reported footage, not independent confirmation of the headline claims.
In other words, footage can show a car moving without establishing how much power it is making or how fast it can go. Neither the older road-test description nor the newer coverage verifies the Devel Sixteen’s advertised top speed or acceleration.
What does “5,000 horsepower” refer to?
Devel’s claimed engine specification
Devel Motors describes the Sixteen’s engine as a 12.3-litre V16 with four 81 mm turbochargers. Its prototype page displays “Five Thousand Seven Horsepower.” These are manufacturer specifications and claims; they are not, by themselves, independent test results for a complete car.

The reported 5,007-hp dyno result
In a November 16, 2017 report, EngineLabs said Steve Morris Engines recorded 5,007 horsepower at 7,000 rpm on an in-house engine dyno. The reported configuration used race fuel, a solid-roller camshaft, and 44 psi of boost. This supports a specific engine-output claim under those conditions. An engine dyno measures an engine, not the power delivered by a complete car on a road or track.
Engine builder Steve Morris told EngineLabs: “The customer contracted with us to build a V-16 with four turbos for this car and make the power they wanted.” That statement describes the engine-building contract; it is not a vehicle test or certification.

Why published horsepower figures differ
Auto Motor und Sport’s May 27, 2024 engine-development video description gives different outputs for different fuels and configurations. Its figures should not be collapsed into one universally verified road-car rating.

These are publisher-reported configuration figures, not independent measurements of road-going performance. They also use PS, while the EngineLabs report gives horsepower; those units are close but not identical. Configuration, fuel, units, and test object all matter when comparing the numbers.

What has—and hasn’t—been demonstrated?
The available material supports a distinction between a reported engine-dyno result and footage described as road testing. The reviewed sources do not establish independent sustained high-speed running, repeatable acceleration or braking results, homologation, or customer delivery of a full-power version. Nor do they provide an official test report or regulator statement verifying the complete vehicle’s headline performance.
- Engine output: EngineLabs reported a 5,007-hp in-house dyno result for a specified race-fuel engine configuration.
- Road footage: Auto Motor und Sport described 2021 footage as an early road test, while saying the target figures remained unproven.
- Newer clip: TechBloat discussed newer circulating footage around mid-2026, but the report does not independently establish its provenance or test conditions.
- Whole-car performance: The cited coverage does not verify the advertised top speed, acceleration, or other full-vehicle performance targets.
How to judge the next Devel Sixteen test claim
A convincing performance claim needs more than a dramatic clip or a large dyno number. Check what was tested, in what configuration, and how the result was measured.

- Identify the test object. Is the evidence for an engine on a dyno or a complete car on a road or track?
- Check the configuration. Look for the fuel, boost level, and whether the claim concerns a road version or a racing configuration.
- Look for measurement details. A reported output, speed, or acceleration time is stronger when the method and instrumentation are stated.
- Check verification and repeatability. Independent confirmation and repeat runs help distinguish a demonstrated result from a manufacturer target or one-off claim.
