The DeLorean Alpha5 was announced in 2022 as a proposed all-electric 2+2 coupe, but the available official material does not verify a 2025 model-year production car, sales, or deliveries. Its widely reported performance figures were manufacturer and design-partner estimates, and the planned 2024 road date was a historical target—not confirmation that the car launched.
What the DeLorean Alpha5 was supposed to be
DeLorean Motor Company revealed the Alpha5 on May 30, 2022, describing it as an all-new electric vehicle rather than an electric conversion of the DMC-12. The design retained recognizable brand cues, including gullwing doors and rear louvers. Italdesign, which worked on the car, described it as an all-electric, all-wheel-drive 2+2 with adaptive suspension. DeLorean’s current Alpha5 page continues to present concept and design material, but that material does not establish that a production car reached customers.
“Alpha5” is the appropriate name. The “2025” in the original title should not be read as proof of a 2025 model year: the available evidence supports an announced concept and projected specifications, not a verified production model.

The figures below came from corporate announcements in 2022. They were estimates or projections, not independent test results or regulatory ratings.

Neither announcement supplies a verified production-specification sheet, an official EPA result, or an independently measured test. The numbers explain what the companies said they were targeting; they should not be treated as achieved performance.
The 2024 launch target has passed
Italdesign’s August 2022 release said the Alpha5 was expected on the road in 2024 and that purchase details would be announced later. That was a forecast at the time, not evidence of a sale or delivery. DeLorean’s current Alpha5 page does not substantiate a production date, current order process, or customer deliveries, and no replacement launch date is established by the cited material.

That distinction matters for anyone searching for an Alpha5 to buy: concept pages and early technical claims are not an order path. Based on the available official material, a production Alpha5 for the 2025 model year is not verified.
What happened with Italdesign’s legal filing
In a complaint filed January 2, 2026, Italdesign sought confirmation and enforcement of an arbitration award. The complaint says an arbitrator issued a final award in Italdesign’s favor on April 23, 2025, and asks the court for monetary relief. Those are statements and requested remedies in a party’s filing, not a court’s finding. The available information does not establish whether a court later confirmed or enforced the award. Italdesign’s press-release page is not a substitute for a judicial disposition.

The Alpha5 product that does exist: a Hot Wheels collectible
There is a documented physical Alpha5, but it is a small die-cast collectible, not a road car. Mattel listed a Hot Wheels 1:64 Alpha5 EV in a two-car collector set with a 1981 DMC-12. Mattel describes the set as made to order and currently marks it sold out. That confirms the collectible existed; it does not confirm current stock at other retailers. Mattel’s product listing has the details.
DeLorean’s media page also identifies merchandise and collectibles among member benefits, but this alone does not establish current product availability or a vehicle purchase option. The available evidence does not support Alpha5-specific replacement parts, service tools, charging equipment, or other accessories for a production car.

The Alpha5 drew on DeLorean styling cues, but it should not be confused with the established 1980s DMC-12. The comparison below separates the announced concept from the historical production car without implying the Alpha5 entered production.
