Daimler Truck has unveiled four speculative design studies about how people and goods might move in the future. They include a Freightliner concept pairing autonomous transport with robotic service tasks, a Setra Zeppelin-inspired airship, and BharatBenz’s VertiHaul vision for logistics in increasingly vertical cities by 2070. These are creative prompts—not announced vehicles or development programs.
Daimler Truck introduced the studies through its Global Design Inspiration initiative, bringing together work from its brands and design centers. The concepts address different questions, from vehicle resource use to freight servicing and passenger travel. The company’s release does not present them as products in development.
What are Daimler Truck’s four future mobility concepts?

The 2070 date applies specifically to VertiHaul. Daimler Truck does not assign that same year to the other studies.
How might Freightliner’s robot rigs work?
The Freightliner study connects autonomous freight transport with robotics for vehicle maintenance and service. In the vision, autonomous systems take on tasks that could help keep vehicles available for freight operations. The release describes possible opportunities for uptime and efficiency, not demonstrated results from operating trucks.

It does not provide engineering specifications, a deployment plan or measured performance figures. The idea is best understood as an exploration of how automation might extend beyond driving to the work of servicing vehicles.
What is Setra’s Miyanoura airship concept?
Miyanoura is a Zeppelin-inspired airship concept developed as part of a master’s thesis project. Instead of treating travel only as a way to reach a destination, the study emphasizes the journey itself: slowing down, comfort and well-being. Daimler Truck presents it as a different possible travel experience, not a product announcement.

What does BharatBenz mean by vertical cities in 2070?
VertiHaul imagines logistics in a future where cities and industrial facilities are organized increasingly vertically. Its central question is how goods could move through infrastructure that works in multiple dimensions, rather than relying only on conventional routes across a horizontal city.
The release offers no detailed infrastructure plan or engineering specifications. It establishes the 2070 setting and the broad logistics premise, but not how such a system would be built or operated.

How does the Mercedes-Benz Trucks study approach resource use?
“Make more with less” explores whether a vehicle could use fewer components while giving individual elements multiple functions and making the overall architecture more modular. The intended direction is greater resource efficiency through vehicle design.
Daimler Truck does not state measured material savings or production specifications, so the study should not be read as a quantified efficiency improvement or a confirmed design for a future truck.

Are these future Daimler Truck products?
No. Daimler Truck describes the initiative’s studies as visions, creative thought starters and discussion prompts—not previews of future products or development programs. The release provides no market, engineering or performance statistics for the concepts.
Stefanie Eßers, Head of Cab Engineering & Design at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said the initiative explores how people and goods might move in the future and reflects the diversity of those possibilities. That framing fits the studies’ different purposes: Freightliner considers freight operations and servicing, Mercedes-Benz Trucks explores resource use and vehicle architecture, Setra focuses on passenger experience, and BharatBenz looks at goods movement through vertical infrastructure.
