During the January 2025 Los Angeles fires, real-estate figure Keith Wasserman asked whether anyone could provide private firefighters to protect his Pacific Palisades home. Critics contrasted that request with his earlier tax-cut advocacy. Futurism later reported that the home burned and that Wasserman sought replacement housing.
What did Keith Wasserman ask for?
Futurism reported that Wasserman asked on social media whether anyone had access to private firefighters to protect his home in Pacific Palisades. The reproduced wording was: “access to private firefighters to protect our home in Pacific Palisades.” A Futurism listing preview gave the request’s ending as “Will pay any amount.” These are words reproduced by reporting; the original post was not independently authenticated. Why did the request draw criticism?
Futurism described critics linking the appeal for privately funded protection to Wasserman’s earlier advocacy for tax cuts. Their criticism framed the request as inconsistent: someone who had argued for lower taxes was now seeking a private service to protect his property. That is the critics’ interpretation of the contrast, not evidence that his tax position caused the fire, shaped the public response, or determined what protection was available.
The Cybertruck reference in the headline is not central to the documented incident. The reporting cited here focuses on Wasserman’s request, the reactions to it, and the reported loss of his home.

Futurism also quoted a Facebook post in which Wasserman wrote: “I feel like I lost a part of my soul losing our home that [my wife] spent so much time meticulously creating for our family,” and, “I miss the Palisades so much. Feels surreal to be homeless after living in so much abundance and beauty.” The quotations are reported by Futurism, rather than checked against the original post.
