A Cybertruck owner said a small divot on the truck’s tailgate cut his wrist during a delivery inspection, sending him to an emergency room hours later when the wound began bleeding again. The account was reported by Collin Woodard for Jalopnik and republished by Gizmodo on May 28, 2024; it describes one owner’s experience, not a verified safety finding about Cybertrucks generally.
How the owner said he was injured
According to the Gizmodo report, which relayed a post by Cybertruck Owners Club forum user bdesign, he and his wife were inspecting the truck with two delivery or advisor employees present. He noticed what he described as a small pit or divot on the tailgate and rubbed it with his thumb. He said the contact cut his wrist.
The owner initially thought the cut was minor, but said it bled heavily. The employees cleaned and bandaged the wound, and the delivery was completed. A couple of hours later, after he removed the bandage, he said the bleeding started again and that he went to the emergency room. His description of the renewed bleeding was: “I unwrapped my wrist and BOOM – spurts of blood all over the kitchen island…,” which leaves me here, at the ER.”
What else the delivery account described
The same report relayed the owner’s complaints about the truck’s condition at delivery: a dirty, filmed windshield; overspray on body panels; small rust spots on the hood; and a loose seal on the driver-side tonneau cover. The owner characterized the delivery as being in “sloppy, sloppy condition.” The article also said he reported that a bed panel fell off while he was later driving at about 60 mph.

What the report does—and does not—establish
The report documents one owner’s description of a wrist injury during an inspection before he had driven the vehicle. It does not include medical records or independent confirmation of the emergency-room visit, a measured sharpness test of the tailgate, an injury rate, or a broader count of similar incidents.
