AMZ mythen Sets 0–100 km/h EV Acceleration Record in 0.956 Seconds

AMZ Racing’s student-built Formula Student prototype mythen reached 100 km/h in a Guinness-listed 0.956 seconds. The official category is 0–100 km/h, not a separately timed 0–62 mph run.

The electric Formula Student prototype mythen, built by AMZ Racing, is the car behind the headline: Guinness World Records lists its 0–100 km/h run at 0.956 seconds. That speed is about 62.15 mph, so “0–62 mph” is a rounded conversion—not a separately documented timing.

What is the electric car that reached about 62 mph in under a second?

It is mythen, a hand-built Formula Student electric race car from AMZ Racing, a student team associated with ETH Zürich. Guinness lists the record as the fastest acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h by an electric car: 0.956 seconds, achieved on 1 September 2023 at Dübendorf, Switzerland. Guinness World Records notes that record updates may not appear online immediately, so its listing should not be read as proof that no later attempt has taken place.

The official distance is 0–100 km/h, equivalent to approximately 62.15 mph. The common 0–62 mph phrasing rounds that conversion; the cited record sources do not establish a separate run timed to exactly 62 mph. ETH Zürich reports that the car covered 12.3 metres to reach 100 km/h. ETH Zürich

How does it compare with the previous record?

ETH Zürich reported that the previous mark was 1.461 seconds, set by a University of Stuttgart team in September 2022. The mythen run was 0.505 seconds quicker by the reported times. These figures compare attempts in the same 0–100 km/h electric-car record category; they do not establish a ranking against production cars tested under separate protocols.

What kind of car is mythen?

mythen is not a road-going production EV. It is a purpose-built Formula Student prototype designed for student motorsport. AMZ identifies it as a 2019 prototype that the team re-engineered for the record attempt, revisiting its drivetrain, aerodynamics and electrical systems. The team reports a distance of 12.24 metres to reach 100 km/h and peak acceleration of 3.81 g; ETH Zürich gives the distance rounded to 12.3 metres. AMZ Racing

The attempt took place at the military airfield in Dübendorf, opposite the students’ workshop, with Kate Maggetti driving, according to ETH Zürich. The record is therefore evidence of what a specialised student race-car project achieved—not a like-for-like measure of everyday EV acceleration, comfort or usability.
