A Cybertruck owner raised concern that snow could build up in front of the truck’s headlights, but his follow-up after a short drive in light, wet snow was more cautious: he said the lights were not blocked and that he did not think it was an issue. The reports document an owner’s concern, not a confirmed defect or a measure of how often snow obstructs Cybertruck headlights.
What the Cybertruck owner said—and what he later clarified
In TikTok videos reported by Gizmodo on December 2, 2024, Cybertruck owner Joe Fay pointed out that the headlights sit low on the front of the truck, below the light bar. He worried that snow collecting in front of them could block the beams. “The headlights are actually hidden down below and can you guess what the issue might be in the wintertime?” he said.
Fay described the concern this way: “These headlights are amazing. They’re extremely bright. However, I found that the snow is building up right in front of the headlights. So that can be a major problem when you’re driving in the wintertime because if snow builds up right here, the headlights are going to be completely blocked.”
His follow-up qualified that warning. After driving a short distance through light, wet snow, he said the headlights were not blocked and added, “So honestly, I don’t think that this is an issue.” Gizmodo reported that the short video had reached 3 million views by the time its article appeared; that is a reported view count, not a safety statistic.

How this differs from an earlier Cybertruck snow report
A separate Carscoops report from March 17, 2024 covered an X post by the account @teslainventory about snow over the headlights. That post and Fay’s later TikTok are distinct owner reports, not a single incident or a controlled comparison. Neither establishes how frequently the problem occurs.
What Tesla’s guidance says about keeping lights clear
Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s Manual cleaning guidance says: “Wipe away mud from the headlights, tail lights, and cameras, as it may affect your vehicle’s ability to drive safely.” The passage addresses buildup and safe driving, but does not give a snow-specific headlight-clearing procedure. It also warns that some cleaners may damage exterior lights and says not to use alcohol or ethyl alcohol on head or tail lights.

Tesla’s cold-weather guidance describes using climate functions to melt snow, ice, and frost on the windshield, windows, and mirrors. It does not say those functions clear the headlights. For visible snow accumulation on the lights, a snow brush can clear the surface before driving; that is general winter-cleaning advice, not a Cybertruck-specific fix or a way to prevent snow from collecting while driving.
Snow-related camera warnings are a separate issue
The North American Cybertruck Owner’s Manual, software version 2026.32, warns that snow can obstruct cameras and affect Self-Driving feature availability. That warning concerns cameras and driver-assistance functions. It is not evidence that Tesla has confirmed a headlight defect.

Is snow blocking Cybertruck headlights a confirmed defect?
The cited owner reports and Tesla manual passages do not establish a defect finding, recall, or the frequency of headlight obstruction. The available accounts support a narrower conclusion: owners have raised the possibility of snow building up in front of the lights, while Fay’s follow-up said his headlights were not blocked during a short drive in light, wet snow. The evidence does not show whether the concern is common or how the lights behave in other snow conditions.
