Not according to any Lexus or Toyota specification reviewed here. The 500-horsepower, 500-mile electric IS is a possibility raised by a February 2026 report, not a confirmed Lexus product. Lexus has shown the LF-ZC, an electric sedan concept with an ambitious range goal, while Toyota’s September 2025 IS announcement lists the IS 300h and IS 350—not a battery-electric IS.
Where did the 500-hp, 500-mile claim come from?
A February 20, 2026 MSN headline reproduced on Ty Duffy’s Muck Rack profile said the next Lexus IS “could be” a 500-horsepower, 500-mile electric sedan. The excerpt raises the question of what comes next for the IS, but does not substantiate either number. No reviewed Lexus or Toyota source confirms those figures or announces an electric IS.
The conditional “could” matters: this is a reported possibility, not a production specification or a commitment from Lexus.
What Lexus has actually shown: the LF-ZC concept
Lexus introduced the LF-ZC at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023 as a next-generation battery-electric sedan concept. The company said at the time that it was set for release in 2026, but that was a plan announced in 2023—not confirmation of its current production status. Lexus has not identified the LF-ZC as the next IS in the reviewed material.

Lexus Europe says the LF-ZC was intended to achieve approximately twice the range of conventional battery-electric vehicles. That is a relative ambition, not a certified range figure: the concept page gives no absolute range, test cycle or battery capacity. It therefore does not substantiate 500 miles.
The same concept page lists outline dimensions of 4,750 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,390 mm tall, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase, and a drag-coefficient target below 0.2. These figures describe the LF-ZC concept; they are not specifications for a future IS. Lexus describes the design as an evolution of its identity, but does not call the concept an IS successor. Lexus’s 2023 concept announcement and its LF-ZC concept page present it as a concept, not a confirmed production IS.

What Toyota’s latest announced IS lineup says
Toyota’s September 9, 2025 announcement describes the IS as a compact front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports sedan and lists IS 300h and IS 350 variants. It outlines steering, suspension, styling, safety and multimedia updates, and says sales in various markets would begin in early 2026. The release does not announce a battery-electric version or give a 500-hp output or 500-mile range for an IS.
The announcement says the IS had reached approximately 1.3 million cumulative sales across 40 countries and regions since its 1999 debut. That history helps explain why a future powertrain change would attract attention, but it is not evidence that Lexus has decided to make the IS electric. Toyota’s IS announcement is the relevant official lineup information here.

Does the LF-ZC point to the IS—or to another Lexus?
Lexus has explicitly connected LF-ZC design inspiration to a different model: the eighth-generation 2026 ES. Lexus announced hybrid and battery-electric versions of that ES and said its design draws inspiration from LF-ZC. That establishes a design relationship, not a succession link between LF-ZC and the IS.
The ES is therefore useful context for Lexus’s electric-sedan plans, but it does not confirm that the IS will become electric or inherit the LF-ZC’s concept ambitions. See Lexus’s 2026 ES announcement and Toyota’s global ES announcement.

What is confirmed—and what remains unconfirmed?

Toyota said 52% of global Lexus sales in 2024 were “electrified” in its 2025 reporting. That category includes multiple powertrain types; it should not be read as a claim that 52% were battery-electric vehicles. The figure indicates broader electrification, not confirmation of a BEV IS. Toyota’s 2025 announcement provides the company’s wording.

A real confirmation would need to come from Lexus or Toyota in the form of a production-model announcement or specification. Until then, treat the LF-ZC’s range language as a concept ambition and the 500-hp and 500-mile figures as unverified claims—not as buying information or settled details about the next IS.
