The bikes differ in engine layout, published specifications and market; whether one is the better choice depends first on what is actually available and registrable where you live.
Is the CBR250RR a CBR300R replacement?
Not in the sense of a confirmed Honda successor. Honda’s 2025 announcement concerns a color update and release in Japan, while the cited U.S. CBR300R specifications are for the 2022 model. Those facts support calling the CBR250RR a potential substitute for shoppers, not a replacement Honda has announced for the U.S. CBR300R.
The distinction matters if you are shopping in the United States: the manufacturer material cited here does not establish a U.S. CBR250RR launch, current CBR300R dealer inventory, or eligibility to import and register a new CBR250RR. Check with a local Honda dealer and the applicable national and state authorities before treating a Japan-market bike as a purchasable road-legal option. Honda’s February 2025 announcement identifies the CBR250RR release as Japan-market.
How the Japan 2025 CBR250RR and U.S. 2022 CBR300R compare
The figures below are manufacturer specifications for different markets and model years, not results from a head-to-head test. Weight, equipment and fuel-economy figures should be read in their stated units and contexts.

What the specification differences do—and do not—tell you
The twin and single are different engine packages
The CBR250RR has a 249cc parallel twin; the cited CBR300R has a 286cc single. That is a meaningful mechanical distinction, but the layouts alone do not establish which bike feels smoother, more responsive or more enjoyable. Those are riding impressions, not conclusions that follow from displacement figures.

Do not treat 42 PS as a direct power comparison
Honda publishes 42 PS at 13,500 rpm and 25 N·m at 10,750 rpm for the Japan-market CBR250RR. The cited U.S. CBR300R specification table does not provide matching horsepower or torque figures. Without comparable ratings or a controlled test, it is not sound to claim that one is faster or more powerful on the basis of these sources.
Weight and seat height are not perfectly apples to apples
Honda lists the CBR250RR at 168 kg and the 2022 U.S. CBR300R at 354 lb for the non-ABS version, with the ABS model listed at 364 lb. The CBR250RR seat is 790 mm; the CBR300R seat is 30.7 in. Keep the stated trims and units in view: regional equipment and the conventions used for weight can differ.

Fuel-economy figures use different bases
Honda gives the CBR250RR a WMTC figure of 27.4 km/L (class 3-2) and estimates 71 mpg for the listed U.S. CBR300R non-ABS model. These are manufacturer figures from distinct procedures and market specifications, not a direct comparative ride test. Honda also cautions that actual CBR300R economy varies with conditions and use; neither figure guarantees what an individual rider will achieve.
Price, colors and the scope of Honda’s Japan announcement
Honda announced a Japan release date of March 6, 2025. The Japanese suggested prices, including consumption tax, were ¥902,000 for Matte Bullet Silver and ¥940,500 for Pearl Glare White and Grand Prix Red. These are Japan-market prices from that announcement, not U.S. prices or evidence of U.S. availability. Honda’s stated annual domestic sales plan was 2,000 units; that was a plan, not a report of units sold. Honda’s release describes the CBR250RR as a “lightweight supersport model” in promotional language, not as an independently verified assessment.

Do not confuse the CBR300R with the current U.S. CB300R
The names are easy to mix up, but the U.S. CB300R is a separate naked/standard motorcycle, not the faired CBR300R. Honda’s 2026 U.S. CB300R page lists a 286cc single, a 31.6-inch seat, standard ABS, a $4,499 base MSRP and a $600 destination charge. Those figures belong to the 2026 CB300R and should not be presented as CBR300R specifications or pricing. See Honda’s U.S. CB300R page; prices and promotions can change.

How to decide whether to pursue the CBR250RR
- Confirm the market first. Ask a local Honda dealer whether the specific CBR250RR model and year is sold or supported in your country; the cited Honda announcement covers Japan.
- Check registration and import rules. Confirm requirements with the relevant national and state authorities before buying or importing. The manufacturer specifications do not establish that a particular bike can be registered where you live.
- Compare the exact bike and trim. Verify model year, market, ABS equipment, condition and documentation. For the 2022 U.S. CBR300R, Honda lists 354 lb for non-ABS and 364 lb for ABS.
- Use a test ride for ride questions. Published specifications cannot establish comfort, handling, reliability or real-world performance. If both models are legally available, assess the actual motorcycle and your fit rather than inferring those qualities from the spec sheet.
