If a road-going version ever appeared, its output and manual gearbox could make it notable—but the available facts do not establish a launch, price, or market impact.
What was reported about the 600-hp Lexus RC?
In September 2024, Road & Track reported that journalists had seen a Lexus RC prototype during a Toyota engine-development media event. The car was said to have a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 600 hp and a six-speed manual transmission. Those are reported prototype details, not specifications confirmed by Lexus for a retail model.
Lexus Enthusiast also described the car as a development vehicle and cautioned that it might have no direct connection to a future production model. Road & Track likewise noted that the test car might never reach the street and reportedly could have been intended for motorsports development.
Toyota had previously offered a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in the RC range. Its 2018 announcement covered updates to aerodynamics, tires, suspension, engine response, and steering feel; it does not verify the prototype’s reported 600-hp output or establish a later production configuration. Toyota’s 2018 release is historical model context, not confirmation of a new car.

Is Lexus making it, and does it have a manual?
There is no manufacturer confirmation in the cited reporting that Lexus will sell a 600-hp RC. The six-speed manual is part of the prototype account, not a confirmed retail specification. No named Lexus or Toyota spokesperson is quoted confirming the car or a production successor.
That leaves important questions unanswered: whether the reported 600 hp refers to engine output in a final road-car configuration, how the power would reach the wheels, and whether a manual could be offered to customers. Until Lexus publishes specifications, those details should be treated as unknown rather than inferred from the prototype report.

What happened to the Lexus RC and RC F?
In January 2025, Lexus and Toyota announced Final Edition versions of the RC and RC F and said production would end in 2025. Toyota’s Japanese announcement scheduled the end for November 2025. It reported approximately 79,000 RCs sold across 62 countries and regions and approximately 12,000 RC Fs across 57 countries and regions. The RC F Final Edition was limited to 200 units in the Japanese market; that figure is not a global production total.
Lexus USA’s announcement said the models would be discontinued at the close of model year 2025, after a decade on sale and more than 90,000 combined sales across 62 countries and regions. These are rounded, historical manufacturer-reported totals with different geographic descriptions—not current annual sales, market share, or proof of demand for a successor. Neither release confirms a new 600-hp RC or names a replacement.

Could a production 600-hp RC shake up the sports-car market?
It could attract attention if Lexus turned the reported concept into a road car, but a market shake-up is a possibility, not an established outcome. The cited sources provide no confirmed price, production volume, road performance, launch date, or comparative test results for this vehicle. Without those details, it is not possible to judge how it would stack up against specific sports cars or how many buyers it might reach.
A meaningful assessment would depend on the eventual car’s confirmed engine and drivetrain layout, whether the horsepower figure is engine or system output, and whether the manual is actually available to customers. Buyers would also need to weigh track capability against road comfort, pricing and production volume, and warranty and service support. None of those production-car details has been established for the reported prototype.

Toyota’s December 2025 unveiling of the GR GT, GR GT3, and Lexus LFA Concept adds performance-car context, but the company presented the GR GT as a GR-brand flagship and did not identify either concept as an RC replacement or connect them to the reported prototype. Toyota’s announcement does not change what is known about the RC.
