Chevrolet says its 2026 Corvette ZR1X ran the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds at 159 mph and reached 60 mph in 1.68 seconds on a prepped track. That establishes the ZR1X’s manufacturer-reported performance—not that it beat a Tesla Model S Plaid in a head-to-head race. A surfaced DragTimes result identifies a TX2K ZR1X-versus-Plaid matchup, but its accessible description does not verify the race outcome or conditions.
What the Corvette ZR1X ran
In a January 13, 2026 announcement, Chevrolet reported that the 2026 ZR1X completed the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds at 159 mph and reached 60 mph in 1.68 seconds on the same run. Chevrolet says the test took place at US 131 Motorsports Park in October 2025, on a prepped surface, using pump gas, standard-equipment tires and the production 50-state street-legal calibration. The reported figures are based on initial vehicle movement and were recorded on a closed course. Chevrolet’s announcement says the test car had standard aero, standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and available carbon-fiber wheels; Chevrolet also says it made multiple back-to-back quarter-mile passes under 8.8 seconds.
The unprepped-track figure is a different test
Chevrolet separately says a ZR1X equipped with the available ZTK Performance Package can run the quarter mile in 8.99 seconds and 0–60 mph in 1.89 seconds on an unprepped surface. Those numbers apply to a different package and track condition; they should not be presented as the conditions for the 8.675-second run.
How the ZR1X makes its power
Chevrolet describes the ZR1X as a hybrid all-wheel-drive car with 1,250 combined horsepower: 1,064 hp from a 5.5-liter twin-turbo LT7 V8 and 186 hp from a front-axle electric drive unit. The electric motor drives the front axle, while the V8 powers the rear, giving the car electrified all-wheel drive.

Launch control is part of the performance picture. Chevrolet says Custom Launch Control manages tire spin and transmission clutch application, among other parameters, and lets the driver adjust launch RPM and wheel-slip targets. The system and the prepped track matter when interpreting a very quick launch; the result is not simply a power figure that guarantees the same time on every surface.
What the Tesla Plaid matchup does—and does not—establish
A surfaced DragTimes video result describes a TX2K quarter-mile matchup involving a 1,250-hp ZR1X and three Tesla Model S Plaids, and references Dragy acceleration data as well as a final ZR1X-versus-Plaid race. The available description does not establish each car’s model year or configuration, the exact elapsed times or trap speeds, track preparation, launch procedure, timing basis, or a verifiable winner. The video page itself was not accessible for confirming those details. The surfaced DragTimes result is evidence that the matchup was presented, not enough evidence to say the Corvette “dominates” the Plaid.

Nor does the manufacturer test settle a head-to-head comparison: Chevrolet’s run is not a paired race against a Plaid. Tesla’s official Model S page was checked, but the accessible text did not provide Plaid-specific performance figures to use here. Tesla’s Model S page therefore cannot supply a comparable number in this account.

Before drawing a conclusion from a ZR1X-versus-Plaid video, confirm that it identifies the cars’ model years and configurations and shows comparable runs over the same distance. Surface preparation, launch method and timing basis can materially affect the result. For a quarter-mile comparison, elapsed time and trap speed should both be clear; a 0–60 figure or a manufacturer’s separate test is not a substitute for the race result.

On the evidence available, the defensible conclusion is narrower but still striking: Chevrolet reports an 8.675-second quarter mile at 159 mph for the 2026 ZR1X on a prepped surface, while the reported TX2K Plaid matchup remains unverified as to conditions and winner. The manufacturer’s run demonstrates the Corvette’s claimed pace; it does not prove a head-to-head victory.
