The clearest factory-built Corvette-powered British sports car in this comparison is the Marcos TSO, whose Chevrolet LS V8 was fitted to a British-built, low-volume sports car. It is not interchangeable with every British V8: the TVR Griffith used Rover V8s, while the Bristol Fighter used a Dodge Viper-derived V10. Against Ferrari, the Marcos offers a distinct lightweight, front-engined alternative—but the available figures are period specifications and claims, not a current, like-for-like test or ownership-cost comparison.
Which British sports cars here are actually Corvette-powered?
Marcos TSO: the direct Corvette-engine comparison
The Marcos TSO is the best-documented example here. Evo’s 2004 launch-era review identifies a 5.7-litre Chevrolet LS1, the same basic engine used in the Corvette at that time. The TSO was a British sports car using an American V8; that does not make it a Corvette in chassis, specification or driving character.
TSO specifications varied. Evo’s launch review covered the R/T at 400bhp, while Auto Express’s 2006 Coupe review described a tuned 5.7-litre V8 producing 475bhp and a six-speed gearbox. Octane’s 2026 feature distinguishes a development TSO GT2 with a 6.0-litre LS2 from standard 5.7-litre LS6 cars in its account. These are different reports and versions: do not treat 475bhp, or any one engine code, as universal to every TSO.
TVR Griffith: a British V8, but not a factory Corvette V8
The Griffith is a useful lightweight British V8 comparator, not a Corvette-powered model in the sources cited here. Auto Express says customer cars began with 4.0- and 4.3-litre Rover V8s, followed by 5.0-litre versions; the cars used a five-speed manual and production ended in 2002. A modified or converted individual car is a separate case, not evidence that the production Griffith was factory Corvette-powered.

Bristol Fighter: a different kind of British-versus-Ferrari contest
The Bristol Fighter belongs in the broader British supercar and GT discussion, but it is not an LS-powered lightweight sports car. Evo’s 2026 road test describes its engine as an 8.0-litre front-mid-mounted V10 derived from the Dodge Viper’s, and identifies the Ferrari 599 as a contemporary rival.
How do their published performance figures compare?
The figures below are drawn from different years, versions and kinds of evidence. Marcos acceleration and top-speed numbers are manufacturer predictions reported at launch; Fighter numbers are stated as claims; the Griffith figures are historical specifications. They are not results from a common test track or a direct comparison against a Ferrari.

| Car and source | Engine and output | Weight | Acceleration and top speed | What the figures establish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marcos TSO R/T, Evo, 2004 | 5.7-litre Chevrolet LS1; 400bhp and 394lb-ft | 1,070kg | Marcos predicted about 4 seconds to 60mph, 9 seconds to 100mph and 185mph maximum | Launch-era R/T specifications and predictions, not independently verified test results. |
| Marcos TSO Coupe, Auto Express, 2006 | Tuned 5.7-litre V8; 475bhp; six-speed gearbox | Not stated in the cited review information | Not stated in the cited review information | A separate Coupe specification; it should not be blended with the R/T figures. |
| TVR Griffith 5.0, Evo feature, 2025 | Rover V8; 340bhp | 1,060kg | 0–60mph in 4.1 seconds; 169mph | Historical model figures reported by Evo in a 2025 feature, not a current test. |
| Bristol Fighter, Evo road test, 2026 | 8.0-litre V10; 525bhp and 525lb-ft | Not stated in the cited road-test information | Claimed 0–60mph in 4 seconds and 210mph maximum | Claimed figures reported in a 2026 road test, not same-day Ferrari test data. |
| Ferrari 599, the Fighter’s contemporary rival | Not stated in the cited comparison information | Not stated in the cited comparison information | Not stated in the cited comparison information | The sources identify it as a contemporary competitor but do not provide a matched specification or test here. |
The TSO R/T’s predicted 185mph and the Fighter’s claimed 210mph point to different performance ambitions, while the Griffith’s lower mass and historical figures describe another lightweight V8 proposition. None settles which car is faster in equivalent conditions. In particular, the available material does not support a numerical Marcos-versus-Ferrari verdict.
What do the historical prices say—and what do they not say?
Period new prices show the cars occupied different price positions when new; they do not show what a sound example costs now. The quoted amounts come from different publication dates and are not adjusted to a common year.

| Car/version | Reported historical new price | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Marcos TSO R/T | £44,950 | Evo, 2004 launch-era price. |
| Marcos TSO, 355bhp five-speed version | £39,950 | Evo, 2004 launch-era price; a different specification from the R/T. |
| TVR Griffith 5.0 | £38,015 | Evo’s 2025 historical-model feature reports this as the new price; the figure is not a current valuation. |
| Bristol Fighter | £229,125 | Evo’s 2026 road test reports this historical new price. |
| Ferrari 599 | Not stated | The cited Fighter comparison identifies the Ferrari as a contemporary rival but does not give a comparable price. |
There is no robust current, like-for-like price range in the available sources for the TSO, Fighter and Ferrari. Evo’s Griffith feature also gives a “value today” figure from £18,000, but that is a figure in a 2025 feature, not a live 2026 market valuation. Treat current asking prices, sale prices and condition as separate evidence to check when shopping rather than extrapolating from these historical numbers.
Are Corvette-powered British sports cars cheaper to run?
The evidence does not establish that they are. A Corvette-derived engine does not by itself make the whole car inexpensive, reliable or straightforward to maintain: the chassis, other components, condition and access to people familiar with the particular marque all matter. No named regulator, standards body or large-scale ownership survey provides a fair reliability or running-cost ranking across these cars. Auto Express notes that the niche Griffith does not appear in its owner-satisfaction survey.

For the Griffith, Auto Express’s 2025 used-car guide quotes a minor service at £500 and a major service at £800, with servicing every 12 months or 6,000 miles. Those are the guide’s quoted figures, not a current workshop quote or a cost forecast for every car. The available sources do not provide equivalent TSO or Fighter service schedules and prices, so a numerical running-cost comparison would be misleading.
Octane’s 2026 TSO feature recounts one owner’s 11 years with one breakdown after buying and repairing a development mule that arrived with faults. That is a single owner’s account, not a reliability rate, a guarantee, or a basis for comparing the TSO fleet with Ferrari ownership.

Which is more practical for road trips?
Practicality depends on whether the priority is a focused weekend car or a car for covering distance. The sources do not provide standardized luggage-capacity, ride or noise measurements across the models, so the useful distinctions are qualitative.
- Marcos TSO: Octane describes the cockpit as cosy and focused. That supports a sports-car-first impression, not a claim about measured comfort or luggage capacity.
- TVR Griffith: Auto Express describes its boot as tiny. It may suit short outings better than trips that require substantial luggage, but the source provides no standardized capacity figure.
- Bristol Fighter: Evo’s test describes comfortable seats and good all-round visibility, and characterizes it as a civilised mile-eater that feels more like a rapid GT than a modern supercar. The same test notes tyre roar at cruising speed and steering that initially feels vague. These are the publication’s impressions of its test car, not universal measurements.
The Fighter is therefore the most explicitly touring-oriented car in these descriptions; the Marcos and Griffith accounts emphasize a more compact, focused sports-car experience. That is a distinction in reported character, not proof that either is unusable for a road trip.
Quick Recap
What should a buyer compare before choosing?
- Identify the exact car and engine. For a TSO, confirm the variant, engine code and specification rather than assuming all cars share the R/T’s output. For a Griffith, distinguish the Rover V8 model from any individual conversion.
- Judge the individual example, not the badge or engine alone. Review documented maintenance and repair history, and arrange an inspection by someone knowledgeable about the specific marque and model. The development-mule anecdote is a reminder of one car’s faults, not a substitute for examining the car you may buy.
- Build a real ownership-cost estimate. Get current quotes for the car’s required work and establish who can maintain it. Do not use the Griffith guide’s quoted service prices as a TSO or Fighter estimate.
- Match the car to its use. Consider luggage needs and cabin comfort alongside performance. If regular long-distance touring matters, assess the Fighter’s reported GT traits in person; if a cosy, focused cockpit suits the brief, the TSO’s description may be more appealing.
- Compare Ferrari with a defined reference. The Fighter’s cited Ferrari rival is the contemporary 599. A comparison with a different Ferrari or with today’s asking prices needs model-specific, date-matched evidence that these published figures do not supply.
