Composite construction is one approach, not a single standardized build. LiV describes its 270THS as a wood-free thermoplastic-composite trailer; CORE RV markets composite-panel construction. Other toy haulers use different combinations of framing, foam and fiberglass. The right choice depends on the particular trailer’s layout, cargo limits and your tow vehicle—not the word “composite” alone.
What “composite” means in a camping trailer
There is no single construction recipe shared by every trailer marketed as composite. LiV describes the 270THS as having a welded thermoplastic-composite body without structural wood. CORE calls the RV 8026’s construction “100% composite panel.” Those are manufacturer descriptions of different products, not proof that all composite trailers share the same materials or performance.
For comparison, Forest River lists laminated aluminum-framed walls, block-foam insulation, fiberglass floor insulation and a fiberglass exterior for its XLR Nitro line. Grand Design describes a three-layer, R-40-insulated garage floor for Momentum models. These details are specific to their respective manufacturers and models; check the exact model year and floor plan rather than assuming a whole brand has one uniform package. No independent comparative durability study or market-wide weight comparison is established by these specifications.
Three towable toy haulers to compare
| Model | Construction and layout | Published weight and capacity | Garage and sleeping details |
|---|---|---|---|
| LiV 270THS | LiV describes a wood-free welded thermoplastic-composite body, slide-out living space and a rear garage/bedroom. | Approximately 4,593 lb dry, 6,750 lb GVWR and around 2,000 lb cargo capacity, according to LiV’s product page. | Ramp door converts to a patio; fold-down beds, convertible dinette and sofa; sleeps up to eight, per LiV. The homepage lists a 27-foot living-area model. |
| LiV 240TH | LiV presents it as an early-look full-size toy hauler with separate bedroom and cargo garage. | 3,990 lb dry, 6,770 lb GVWR and 2,780 lb carrying capacity, per LiV. | Manufacturer-listed sleep capacity is four. LiV says final equipment and details may change, so treat the figures as preliminary. |
| CORE RV 8026 | CORE markets 100% composite-panel construction and describes the RV 8026 as an all-season toy hauler. | 5,490 lb base weight and 9,999 lb GVWR, per CORE. | 30 ft long; sleeps six. CORE lists two garage-size options, depending on bath layout: 221 × 73 × 85 in or 195 × 73 × 85 in. |
These are manufacturer-listed figures, not results from a common weighing or testing procedure. “Dry weight” and “base weight” may not represent the trailer as equipped for your trip, while floor-plan options and installed equipment affect real measurements. Verify the exact unit’s current specifications and labels with the manufacturer or dealer.

How to tell whether your vehicle can tow one
Dry weight is a published starting figure; it is not the trailer’s loaded towing weight. GVWR is the trailer’s maximum rated weight when loaded. Carrying capacity is the amount of cargo the trailer can carry under its published rating, but the available amount on a particular unit can change with options and installed equipment. LiV’s FAQ explicitly advises matching the loaded trailer weight to the tow vehicle’s tow capacity while leaving room for passengers and gear.
- Find the exact trailer’s ratings. Use the current unit’s certification label and manufacturer documentation, not just a model-page estimate. Confirm dry or base weight, GVWR, cargo carrying capacity and any configuration-specific limits.
- Estimate trip weight. Account for the recreational vehicle, fuel and equipment, plus water, supplies and options carried in or on the trailer. Do not assume the published dry figure is what you will tow.
- Check the tow vehicle’s ratings. Compare the loaded trailer with the vehicle’s rated towing capacity, and check the vehicle’s other applicable limits, including payload and hitch limits. Use the ratings for your specific vehicle configuration.
- Keep people and cargo in the calculation. Passengers and items in the tow vehicle use payload capacity; the trailer’s cargo also increases its loaded weight. Leave the margin LiV recommends rather than treating a maximum rating as a target.
A trailer’s published GVWR does not establish that a particular tow vehicle can safely tow it. If the loaded configuration or any vehicle rating is unclear, confirm it with the vehicle and trailer manufacturers or a qualified dealer before travel.

Check the garage against the actual vehicle you plan to carry
Garage capacity is more than a headline weight rating. Compare the recreational vehicle’s length, width and height with the garage’s usable dimensions and the ramp or opening. CORE publishes two RV 8026 garage-size options, so the bath layout matters. The LiV 270THS page describes a rear garage/bedroom and ramp-to-patio, but the cited specifications do not establish a universal fit for a particular motorcycle or ATV.
- Measure the vehicle at its widest and tallest points, including accessories that will remain attached.
- Check the usable garage dimensions, door opening and ramp arrangement for the precise floor plan.
- Plan how the vehicle will be restrained using the trailer’s actual tie-down provisions and the vehicle’s securement points. Advertised cargo capacity alone does not demonstrate that a load fits or can be safely secured.
SylvanSport says its convertible GOAT has built-in tie-down points, but it is a different kind of product: a convertible off-road trailer with a fabric shelter, not a rigid composite-shell toy hauler. Its manufacturer lists 950 lb carrying capacity. A motorcycle wheel chock for a toy hauler is an accessory to evaluate only after checking fit and compatibility with the trailer’s floor, anchor points and motorcycle; no specific chock is established here as tested or suitable for every garage.

Layout and comfort: garage by day, sleeping space at night
The LiV 270THS is a direct example of the crossover: its rear garage/bedroom, fold-down beds, convertible dinette and sofa let the same trailer accommodate gear and a group of up to eight, according to LiV. Its ramp door also becomes a patio. Sleeping capacity is a manufacturer-listed maximum, not a guarantee that every occupant has the same bed size or privacy; inspect the floor plan to see how sleeping areas are arranged.
The LiV 240TH takes a different approach with a separate bedroom and cargo garage, and LiV lists sleeping for four. CORE lists six-person sleeping capacity for the RV 8026 and offers two garage dimensions tied to bath layout. Compare the actual floor plan and garage length with your priorities: a separate bedroom, more sleeping positions, or more room for the vehicle may not all come in the same configuration.

Cold- and heat-management claims also need to be read model by model. Grand Design describes an R-40, three-layer garage-floor insulation design for Momentum models. Forest River’s XLR Nitro materials describe a different combination of wall and floor insulation. These examples do not establish that every toy-hauler garage is equally insulated or suitable for the same conditions; confirm the relevant model-year features and intended use with the manufacturer.

A truck camper or convertible camping trailer may solve part of the same hauling-and-camping problem, but neither should be mistaken for a rigid composite toy-hauler trailer.

What to confirm before choosing a model
- Whether the construction description refers to the shell, panels, framing or another specific component.
- The exact unit’s current weight label, GVWR, carrying capacity and installed options.
- The tow vehicle’s ratings for its actual configuration and the loaded combination you expect to use.
- Garage dimensions, ramp or opening measurements, tie-down provisions and a securement plan for your recreational vehicle.
- Sleeping layout, bedroom separation and model-specific insulation features.
- Whether specifications are final or preliminary, especially for newly announced models such as the LiV 240TH.
Durability, rot resistance, weight and insulation should not be inferred from “composite” as a category. CORE describes its panels as waterproof, dent-resistant and durable; that remains a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparative result. Warranty terms and exclusions should be reviewed for the exact model before purchase.
