Which Chinese car topped the UK chart?
It was the JAECOO 7. JAECOO UK announced on 7 April 2026 that the SUV was the UK’s best-selling new car in March, reporting 10,064 registrations and attributing the figures to SMMT. Is the JAECOO 7 coming to India?
An India launch is not verified by the official sources cited here. They do not establish a launch date, Indian-market specification, price, homologation status or authorized sales channel. Treat claims that it is “coming soon” as unconfirmed until Chery or an authorized Indian distributor makes a specific announcement.

The UK sales figures show registrations in Britain; they do not demonstrate Indian demand or confirm that the car will be sold in India. Likewise, the UK model’s equipment and powertrain details should not be assumed to describe any future Indian version.
What does the UK-market JAECOO 7 offer?
JAECOO UK lists a petrol version with a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, 147 PS and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The maker quotes fuel efficiency of up to 44.1 mpg under WLTP. The UK range also includes the JAECOO 7 SHS-H self-charging hybrid, described as using a 1.5-litre turbo engine and a 1.83 kWh battery. How strong are the UK sales beyond March?
JAECOO UK reported 26,048 JAECOO 7 registrations in the UK during 2025, ranking fourth among retail cars, with the figures attributed to SMMT. Could another headline about a Chinese “top-selling” car be referring to this model?
Not necessarily. Rankings depend on the market, month and category. For example, a 2025 report about the BYD Seal U described it as the UK’s top-selling plug-in hybrid in May. That was a different vehicle, month and narrower category than the JAECOO 7’s overall new-car ranking for March 2026. Autocar’s June 2025 report.
