China’s RX1H, a two-seat electric helicopter, reportedly made its first flight on September 6, 2025, at Faku Caihu Airport in Shenyang. Its development institute says it completed hovering, a 360-degree turn, and forward, backward, and lateral maneuvers. That is an early flight milestone—not evidence that the aircraft is certified, in production, or carrying passengers commercially.
What is the RX1H?
RX1H is a two-seat electric helicopter developed under the lead of Shenyang Aerospace University’s Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute. The institute describes it as China’s first two-seat electric helicopter. Its September 2025 announcement is the primary source for the aircraft’s reported flight and project details; it is a developer account, not an independent test report. The institute identifies a collaboration involving the China Helicopter Design and Research Institute, Changhe Aircraft Industries, Beijing Institute of Technology, Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, and the CAAC Shenyang Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center. It says the team spent four years developing RX1H and addressed more than ten key technologies, including multidisciplinary design optimization, high-energy-density battery integration, electric drive systems, and lightweight structures. Those are project claims; the announcement does not publish supporting test data.
What happened on RX1H’s first flight?
The institute reported that RX1H flew at 9 a.m. on September 6, 2025, at Faku Caihu Airport in Shenyang. It said the aircraft completed hovering, a 360-degree turn, and forward, backward, and lateral maneuvers. These reported actions show that the team flew the prototype and performed basic flight maneuvers; they do not establish its range, endurance, payload, reliability, or readiness for routine operations.

Is RX1H certified or carrying passengers?
The available project announcement does not establish that RX1H has received airworthiness certification, entered production, or begun passenger service. The institute said the team would continue optimizing the aircraft and work toward commercial operations. That describes a future goal, not a current service or approval.
A first flight and certification answer different questions. A prototype can demonstrate that it flies without having completed the testing, documentation, and regulatory review required for approved operations. The named CAAC Shenyang Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center appears among the project collaborators, but that alone is not evidence that the aircraft has been certified.

What is known—and not known—about its technology?
The institute highlights battery integration, electric propulsion, and lightweight structures as areas addressed during development. It does not provide RX1H-specific battery capacity, motor or rotor specifications, range, endurance, payload, noise measurements, or operating cost. Without those figures, it is not possible to assess how far it could fly, how long it could stay airborne, or what missions it might support.
Those missing details matter for electric aircraft generally. A 2024 technical review identifies battery materials and structural integration, battery management, flight-control complexity, fault reconstruction, and coordinated control as challenges in eVTOL development. It also notes that rotor and rotor-wing interaction can be a prominent noise source; lower rotor tip speed and greater rotor solidity are among the approaches discussed for reducing noise. The review says system-based methods are the main approach to safety design when flight-test data are absent. It frames comparisons between eVTOLs and conventional fuel aircraft around performance, noise, and cost. RX1H cannot yet be meaningfully compared on those measures from the published project details alone.

The separate 2020 research demonstrator
China’s National Development and Reform Commission reported that an electric manned-helicopter research demonstrator at Shenyang Aerospace University made a research flight on July 11, 2020. The institute’s team profile also refers to a domestic manned electric helicopter first flight that year. This was an earlier, separate aircraft and milestone—not RX1H’s first flight. The 2026 DF3000 hybrid eVTOL
Another distinct project is Tsinghua University’s DF3000 “Youlong,” a 3-ton-class hybrid eVTOL. Tsinghua reported that it made its first flight in hybrid mode in May 2026, using distributed electric propulsion with series-hybrid generation.
