The cheapest new electric car in Autotrader’s U.S. 2025 ranking was the 2025 Nissan LEAF, at $29,280 including destination. That is a historical model-year comparison—not a guarantee that a new 2025 LEAF or any other car on the list is still in stock in your area in 2026.
Autotrader ranked base trims using manufacturer pricing with destination included, but excluding taxes, title and licensing fees. Options, incentives and local dealer pricing can change what a buyer actually pays. The list below keeps that price basis consistent; it is not a list of out-the-door prices.
Cheapest new electric cars in 2025, ranked by starting price
Prices and entry-trim range figures below follow Autotrader’s 2025 U.S. ranking. Prices include destination according to Autotrader; ranges are the estimates reported for the specified trim or configuration, not guaranteed real-world distances. Autotrader’s ranking and methodology are the basis for the order.
| Rank | 2025 model | Starting price | Entry-range figure | What stands out |

| 10 | Nissan Ariya | $41,160, destination included (Autotrader) | 216 miles for Engage | Higher-priced configurations offer up to 289 miles or all-wheel drive. |
Why published starting prices do not always match
A starting price depends on what a source counts. Autotrader’s listed figures include destination; a manufacturer’s MSRP may exclude it. Neither figure is the amount due at the dealership after taxes, title, registration, dealer fees, options and any discounts.

Nissan listed the SV PLUS at $36,190 MSRP before that destination charge, with estimated range of 149 miles for S and up to 212 miles for SV PLUS. Nissan also notes that dealers set actual prices and that its MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title and license. Nissan’s 2025 LEAF pricing and specifications.

These are different sources and price bases, not directly interchangeable transaction prices. Hyundai’s KONA Electric specifications.

Fiat and Mustang Mach-E: source differences
Autotrader calls the second-ranked car a 2025 Fiat 500e and lists it at $32,495. Kelley Blue Book’s list instead labels its second-ranked Fiat a 2024 500e at $34,095. Those are not the same model-year-and-price claim, so this ranking uses Autotrader’s 2025 entry consistently. Kelley Blue Book’s cheapest electric cars list.

There is a similar distinction for the Mustang Mach-E: Autotrader lists the 2025 starting price at $39,090, while Kelley Blue Book lists $38,490 and a 250-mile base-range figure. Autotrader’s “up to 320 miles” is a maximum-range figure, not the entry-trim range. A maximum for one configuration should not be compared as though it were the base-trim estimate for another.
How to choose beyond the lowest price
The LEAF is the least expensive entry in this ranking, but the entry-price order is not a value ranking for every driver. Compare the trim you would actually buy, its range estimate, body style, drive layout, included charging equipment and local offer.

- Match range to routine trips. The LEAF S is listed at 149 miles, compared with 200 miles for KONA Electric SE and up to 319 miles for Equinox EV LT1 FWD. These are trim-specific estimates; temperature, speed, terrain, climate use and other conditions affect actual distance.
- Compare entry trim with the range you want. On the LEAF, SV PLUS is listed at up to 212 miles; on the KONA Electric, SEL and Limited are estimated at 261 miles. The higher-range choice may cost more than the model’s advertised starting price.
- Choose a body style and drive layout that fit. The IONIQ 6 is the sedan on this list; the Fiat 500e is described as a small city car, while the Niro EV is a hatchback/crossover. The Solterra has standard all-wheel drive. Check the exact drivetrain and trim rather than assuming every version of a model is alike.
- Check charging equipment and home setup. Toyota says a dual-voltage Level 1/Level 2 cable comes standard with every 2025 bZ4X grade. For other vehicles, confirm what is included, charger compatibility, the electrical capacity at home and any installation requirements. A Level 2 charger is not automatically included just because a vehicle supports Level 2 charging.
- Get a local, current price. Incentives, options, dealer fees and inventory can change the amount. Kelley Blue Book says its listed prices exclude incentives, rebates and other discounts. Request an itemized quote for the exact trim and verify whether destination and dealer charges are included.
Is a 2025 model still available new?
This is a ranking of 2025 model-year vehicles, not a statement that new examples remain available everywhere in 2026. Autotrader’s guide dates its vehicle sample to February 2025 and notes that availability varies by state. Check dealer stock and current pricing in your area before treating any listed starting price as obtainable.
