Cheapest Coupes for 2025: Starting MSRPs and What Counts

If you mean a strict two-door coupe, the lowest starting price in the manufacturer figures covered here is the 2025 Toyota GR86: $30,400 MSRP for the base manual. Its base automatic starts at $31,500. The Subaru BRZ Premium starts at $33,210, while the Nissan Z Sport starts at $42,970. These are manufacturer list prices, not dealer quotes, and this comparison is not a complete market-wide ranking.

Which 2025 cars qualify as coupes?

Here, “coupe” means a fixed-roof, two-door car. That keeps the Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ and Nissan Z in the main comparison. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a soft-top roadster, so it belongs in a broader sports-car comparison rather than a strict coupe list. BMW’s 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door sedan-style model, despite its name, and is not a two-door coupe.

Starting MSRPs for strict two-door coupes

Model and trim Starting MSRP What the figure covers
2025 Toyota GR86 base, manual $30,400 Base trim with manual transmission; Toyota’s 2025 model-year product page.
2025 Toyota GR86 base, automatic $31,500 Base trim with automatic transmission; Toyota’s 2025 model-year product page.
2025 Subaru BRZ Premium $33,210 Premium trim; Subaru’s 2025 trim comparison.
2025 Toyota GR86 Premium, manual $33,000 Premium trim with manual transmission; Toyota’s 2025 model-year product page.
2025 Toyota GR86 Premium, automatic $34,100 Premium trim with automatic transmission; Toyota’s 2025 model-year product page.
2025 Subaru BRZ Limited $35,860 Limited trim; Subaru’s 2025 trim comparison.
2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition $35,270 Special edition; Toyota’s 2025 model-year product page.
2025 Subaru BRZ tS $38,360 tS trim; Subaru’s 2025 trim comparison.
2025 Nissan Z Sport $42,970 Sport trim; Nissan’s March 6, 2025 pricing release. Destination and handling are extra.
2025 Nissan Z Performance $52,970 Performance trim; Nissan’s March 6, 2025 pricing release. Destination and handling are extra.
2025 Nissan Z NISMO $65,750 NISMO trim; Nissan’s March 6, 2025 pricing release. Destination and handling are extra.

Prices and trim names are based on the manufacturers’ cited 2025 model-year information: Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ and Nissan Z. The table sorts the cited figures by price, but it should not be read as an exhaustive list of every coupe sold for 2025.

How to choose among the GR86, BRZ and Z

Toyota GR86: the lowest listed entry price

The GR86 manual base trim is the least expensive strict coupe in the manufacturer pricing presented here. The automatic base costs $1,100 more than the manual base. Toyota also lists Premium versions and the Hakone Edition at higher prices, so compare the specific trim and transmission you would actually buy rather than relying on one model’s entry figure.

Subaru BRZ: compare trim level, not just model names

The BRZ Premium starts at $33,210, above the GR86 manual base but below the cited GR86 Premium manual price. Subaru lists a 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder and publishes “up to” fuel-economy figures that vary by trim and transmission; consult its trim comparison for the version-specific details rather than assuming one figure applies to every BRZ.

Nissan Z: a higher-priced sports coupe

The Z Sport begins well above the GR86 and BRZ figures shown. Nissan also lists the Performance and NISMO at substantially higher starting prices. Those are different trims and price points; the figures alone do not establish an apples-to-apples equipment or performance comparison.

Roadsters and four-door “Gran Coupes” are separate categories

Mazda MX-5 Miata: low-priced, but not a strict coupe

Mazda’s pricing notice, effective March 1, 2025, lists the MX-5 Miata soft top at $29,530 MSRP. That is lower than the GR86 manual base figure, but the Miata is a convertible roadster, not a fixed-roof coupe. Include it if you are shopping broadly for an affordable sports car; exclude it if you need a coupe’s fixed roof. Mazda’s 2025 MX-5 Miata pricing notice.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: four doors, despite the name

BMW announced a $39,600 starting MSRP for the 2025 228 sDrive Gran Coupe, plus $1,175 destination and handling, with arrival scheduled for mid-2025. Because it has four doors, it does not belong in a strict two-door ranking. BMW’s 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe announcement.

What MSRP leaves out

MSRP is a starting manufacturer price, not the amount you will necessarily pay at the dealership or the total cost to put the car on the road. Nissan’s March 6, 2025 release lists $1,295 for destination and handling in addition to the Z MSRP. Nissan also says taxes, title, license, options and dealer-set actual pricing are outside MSRP, and states: “Dealer sets actual price.” Fees and pricing treatment can differ by model and dealer, so check the specific vehicle’s written quote.

How to compare prices before you buy

  1. Choose the body style first. Decide whether you need a fixed-roof two-door coupe or would also consider a convertible roadster or a four-door car marketed as a Gran Coupe.
  2. Compare matching configurations. Check the exact trim and transmission: the GR86’s base manual and automatic have different starting prices, as do its Premium versions.
  3. Get the complete price for the car you will buy. Ask the dealer for a written out-the-door quote that separates vehicle price, destination, options, dealer-added items, taxes and government fees.
  4. Check local availability and incentives. Manufacturer MSRP does not establish inventory, discounts or the price a particular dealer will offer. Compare quotes for the same model, trim and equipment.

Is this a complete list of the cheapest 2025 coupes?

No. Kelley Blue Book published a page titled “7 Cheapest Coupes of 2025” and describes the BRZ as an approachable rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, but its accessible excerpt does not reveal all seven models or their prices. The manufacturer figures above therefore support a useful comparison of several relevant coupes, not a verified all-market ranking. Kelley Blue Book’s 2025 cheapest-coupes page.
