That is what the report’s headline claims—not a power figure independently confirmed by the available specifications or a documented test. The car’s chassis identity and full ownership history are also not established by the sources available here.
What the 800-BHP claim tells us
The New Atlas headline identifies the car as dual-supercharged and states 800 BHP. The accessible record does not provide independently verifiable engine specifications or test results for this particular Cobra, so the figure should be treated as the report’s stated rating, not as a measured result. The exact publication date is likewise unconfirmed; the result dates to approximately 2007.
Why the Cobra’s origins matter
Shelby American’s official history says Carroll Shelby wanted a sports car combining European handling and balance with a serviceable American V-8. After learning that AC Cars had lost its Bristol engine supplier, Shelby approached AC about the project and then proposed it to Ford. Shelby American was established in 1962 to build the car in California.
The company’s history describes early Cobras with Ford 260-cubic-inch engines, followed by 289-cubic-inch engines. That background explains the car’s Anglo-American roots, but it does not verify the detailed mechanical configuration of the dual-supercharged Cobra described by New Atlas.

Was this Carroll Shelby’s own Cobra?
New Atlas characterized the dual-supercharged car as personal to Shelby. The available material does not establish its chassis number or provide a complete ownership chain, so that characterization cannot be independently tied here to a specific vehicle identity.
One documented Shelby-owned Cobra should not be confused with it: duPont REGISTRY reported in 2021 that Carroll Shelby owned CSX3178, a 427 Cobra, from its assembly in March 1966 until his death. That is a separate car unless evidence connects its chassis to the dual-supercharged report; no such connection is established here.

Shelby American says its official Registry was created to catalog authentic Shelby vehicles and preserve information such as ownership lineage and original-equipment details. A registry entry or other chassis-specific documentation would be relevant to confirming whether a particular car matches a historical report. The available sources do not supply that evidence for the dual-supercharged Cobra.
