Not live, if you mean the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix. The race at the Red Bull Ring took place on June 28, 2026, and Austria’s live rights were assigned to ServusTV and ServusTV On—not ORF ON. ORF later offered delayed race coverage and highlights, but the replay is no longer listed in the current ORF ON Formula 1 catalogue as of August 10, 2026. For a future Austrian Grand Prix, check that season’s rights allocation before assuming ORF will show it.
Updated for 2026: This guide corrects older coverage that applied to the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, when ORF had the race live and exclusively.
Quick answer: where was the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix available?
| What you wanted to watch | 2026 Austrian broadcaster or status |
|---|---|
| Live practice, qualifying and race in Austria | ServusTV and ServusTV On, free to access in Austria |
| Full race on ORF | Delayed on ORF 1 at 23:19 on June 28, then listed for ORF ON availability |
| ORF highlights | ORF SPORT+ and ORF ON after the broadcast |
| Replay today | Check the ORF ON Formula 1 catalogue; the Austrian Grand Prix is no longer listed there as of August 10, 2026 |
The event was the 2026 Lenovo Austrian Grand Prix, held at the Red Bull Ring from June 26 to June 28. ServusTV’s schedule placed the race at 15:00 Austrian local time on Sunday, June 28, with coverage from 13:10 and a race countdown at 14:50.
Why ORF ON was not the live source in 2026
Austria’s Formula 1 rights were shared between ORF and ServusTV through 2026, with each broadcaster receiving 12 live races. The allocation did not give ORF the Austrian round: the Spielberg race on June 28 was assigned to ServusTV. Other races, including Silverstone on July 5, Budapest on July 26 and Abu Dhabi on December 6, were assigned to ORF 1.

That means a page saying “watch the Austrian Grand Prix free on ORF ON” can be accurate for one season and wrong for another. The exact-match older article commonly appearing in search results was published for the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix. In 2025, ORF carried the Austrian race live and exclusively; that arrangement did not apply to the 2026 race.
How to watch the live Austrian Grand Prix in Austria
For the 2026 event, the correct free live route was ServusTV On:
- Open the ServusTV Austrian Grand Prix guide or the ServusTV On website.
- Choose the live Formula 1 stream or the relevant live-program listing.
- Watch from an Austrian internet connection. The free live stream was intended for viewers in Austria and was subject to territorial rights restrictions.
ServusTV’s Austrian Formula 1 coverage is in German. It is not the international English-language F1 TV feed.
If you are checking this article before a later Austrian Grand Prix, do not assume that ServusTV will retain the same allocation indefinitely. ORF’s published information confirms the split through 2026; rights can be renegotiated or allocated differently for later seasons.
How to look for delayed Austrian Grand Prix coverage on ORF ON
ORF’s 2026 coverage was a delayed and supplementary option rather than the live race stream. ORF 1 listed Formel 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2026 – Das ganze Rennen und Analyse at 23:19 on June 28, 2026, after the live event had finished. The listing said the programme would be available on ORF ON after its television broadcast. ORF SPORT+ also listed Austrian Grand Prix highlights on June 29.
When a programme is still within its online rights window, use this route:

As of August 10, 2026, the current ORF ON Formula 1 catalogue no longer listed the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix replay. Do not assume that an old direct link will continue to work, or that the replay must remain online for six months. ORF says maximum availability periods can be up to 30 days for current information, up to six months for films and series, and potentially longer for some documentaries—but the actual period depends on licensing and online rights. Sports replays are therefore time-sensitive.
Is ORF ON free?
ORF ON has no separate streaming subscription fee. ORF says the service is covered by Austria’s household broadcasting levy. That does not mean watching is literally cost-free for every person: you still need an internet connection, and your broadband or mobile provider may charge for data.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Free” should therefore be understood as no additional ORF ON sports subscription. It does not remove Austria’s household levy, internet costs or any device costs. ServusTV On’s 2026 Austrian Grand Prix guide likewise presented the live stream as free in Austria.
Does watching ORF ON require an account?
An ORF account is free; it is not a paid subscription. However, it is too broad to promise that an account is never required. ORF documents account use for saving favourites, storing ORF Live preferences, watching certain age-restricted videos during daytime hours, and MediaKey login and age verification. Ordinary playback may not present all of those requirements, and the player’s behaviour can change.
If ORF ON asks you to register, ORF’s documented MediaKey process is:
- Select the person or account icon.
- Choose Anmelden.
- Select Anmelden mit MediaKey.
- Enter your email address and create or enter a password.
- Enter the six-digit TAN sent to your email.
Creating the account does not bypass geographic restrictions. A valid account alone will not make a rights-restricted sports video play outside Austria.

ORF ON versus ORF Live
These are related but different parts of ORF’s service:
- ORF ON: the on-demand platform for programmes, replays, clips and highlights.
- ORF Live: near-continuous live streams of ORF channels, integrated into ORF ON. ORF says its live streams can be rewound by up to 24 hours.
The 24-hour rewind is not a permanent sports archive. It can help you catch a recently broadcast ORF programme, but it does not guarantee access to a race that aired weeks or months earlier. For the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix, the race’s delayed ORF 1 broadcast was scheduled for late on June 28; after the relevant live and catch-up windows expired, ORF Live was not a substitute for an archived replay.
Can you watch ORF ON outside Austria?
Not reliably for Formula 1. ORF says geo-protected videos require an Austrian IP address, and its help pages identify sports broadcasts as content that may be restricted to Austria. Some general ORF programming may work abroad, but that does not establish that an Austrian Grand Prix stream or replay will play from another country.
If you are in the United States
Do not use ORF ON as your primary legal option. For 2026, Formula 1 identified Apple TV as the official U.S. home of Formula 1, with live and on-demand coverage available to Apple TV subscribers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesViewers elsewhere should check the official Formula 1 broadcaster for their own country. A stream being free in Austria does not make it a worldwide stream.
What about using a VPN?
A VPN may technically change the apparent location of an internet connection, but it is not an official ORF viewing solution and it may be detected or blocked. ORF’s documentation establishes the Austrian geographic restriction; it does not endorse bypassing that restriction. ORF consumer-affairs coverage cites the European Consumer Centre’s view that circumventing copyright-based territorial restrictions may not be legally permissible, even though VPN use itself is generally legal. The legal position depends on the country and circumstances, so do not treat a VPN as a guaranteed or universally lawful way to access the stream.

Supported ORF ON browsers, apps and TVs
ORF lists support for the following routes, subject to the exact device model, software version and DRM support:
| Platform | ORF-listed requirement or support |
|---|---|
| Desktop browsers | Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge with DRM support |
| Android | Android 5.0 or later; Android TV 5 or later |
| iPhone and iPad | iOS or iPadOS 14 or later |
| Apple TV | tvOS 14 or later |
| Amazon Fire TV | FireOS 6 or later |
| Samsung smart TVs | Tizen 2.4 or later |
| LG smart TVs | webOS 3.0 or later |
| Other televisions | Certain Hisense, Loewe, Toshiba, JVC, Philips TitanOS and Panasonic devices |
Opera is not supported according to ORF’s browser help. Older Fire TV hardware using FireOS 5 may only provide access to the older TVthek service rather than the current ORF ON app. The safest approach is to use a current Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge browser with DRM enabled, or update the television’s operating system before troubleshooting the stream.
What language and coverage should you expect?
ORF’s Formula 1 coverage is in German. The ORF listing for the delayed 2026 Austrian Grand Prix named Ernst Hausleitner as commentator. ServusTV’s Austrian coverage is also German-language. ORF ON should not be confused with F1 TV’s international feed, and the ORF player does not promise the standard English-language F1 TV commentary.

“This video is only available in Austria”
This normally indicates a geographic rights restriction rather than a missing account or payment method. If you are outside Austria, the block may be expected. If you are physically in Austria:
- Disable any VPN, proxy, Smart DNS service or corporate network routing.
- Check the apparent country of your internet connection; an Austrian user can sometimes be assigned an IP address that looks foreign.
- Try a normal home broadband or Austrian mobile connection.
- Restart the browser or app and try the video again.
- If the connection genuinely appears to be in Austria but ORF still blocks it, contact your internet provider or ORF support.
The video or replay has disappeared
Search the ORF ON Formula 1 series page rather than relying on a saved article link. Then check the matching tv.ORF.at programme listing. ORF says the programme page indicates whether online video is intended to be offered, while the individual video page shows its availability period. If neither page lists the Austrian Grand Prix, the online rights window may have ended.
The stream will not play
Common causes include an unstable connection, an unsupported browser, missing DRM support, an obsolete TV operating system, an IP-location mismatch, heavy demand during a major live event or an expired rights window. ORF’s player adjusts video quality automatically to the available bandwidth, so a manual quality setting is not a guaranteed fix. Try a supported browser, update the app or TV software, clear site data, or use a private browser window to rule out damaged cookies and cached data.

Why the year matters
The simple answer “watch the Austrian Grand Prix on ORF ON for free” is incomplete because Austrian Formula 1 rights are not permanently tied to one broadcaster. For 2026, ServusTV On was the live, free-in-Austria destination, while ORF ON was relevant for delayed coverage and highlights. For another season, the answer could change again.
Always confirm three details before opening a stream: the season, whether the programme is live or delayed, and the country in which the stream is licensed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix live on ORF ON?
No. The live practice, qualifying and race coverage in Austria was on ServusTV and ServusTV On. ORF’s 2026 coverage was delayed or highlights-based, including a delayed full-race programme on ORF 1 at 23:19 on June 28.
Is an ORF ON account a paid subscription?
No. An ORF account is free, and ORF ON has no separate streaming subscription fee. ORF says the service is covered by Austria’s household broadcasting levy. Some account features and certain age-restricted videos may require MediaKey sign-in.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why can I watch some ORF videos abroad but not Formula 1?
ORF applies rights restrictions by programme. Geo-protected sports videos may require an Austrian IP address even when other ORF content is available internationally.
Does ORF ON provide English F1 commentary?
No such feed should be assumed. ORF’s Austrian coverage is in German, as is ServusTV’s coverage. ORF ON is not the international English-language F1 TV feed.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: For the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix, ORF ON was not the place to watch live. Viewers in Austria used free ServusTV On coverage; ORF ON offered delayed race coverage and highlights, but the replay was no longer listed as of August 10, 2026. If you are in the U.S., the official 2026 option is Apple TV. For any future race, check the current rights allocation, location restriction and replay expiry before relying on an old ORF link.
