No—do not use a drill battery to jump-start your car. Use a jump-start method that meets your vehicle maker’s voltage requirements and follow the instructions in your own owner’s manual. The 2024 Hyundai NE1 owner manual says to use only a 12-volt power supply, such as a battery or jumper system, and warns that using another voltage can damage the battery or cause an explosion.
Why a drill battery is not a safe substitute
A drill battery is made to power a tool, not to serve as a vehicle jump-start source. The available guidance here does not establish the voltage or output of every drill-battery platform, so there is no basis to treat one as a compatible car power supply. Connecting an improvised source also risks an incorrect electrical connection.
Hyundai’s 2024 NE1 owner manual states: “Only use a 12 V power supply (battery or jumper system) to jump start your vehicle.” It warns that a source with a different voltage can damage the battery or provoke an explosion. This is model-specific guidance, not a procedure for every car; check the manual for your own vehicle’s requirements.
What to use instead
- A compatible 12-volt portable jump starter: Choose a purpose-built jumper system that is suitable for your vehicle, and follow both manuals. The Hyundai manual permits a 12-volt jumper system but does not certify particular products.
- Jumper cables and another vehicle: Cables alone are not a power source. Use them only with a suitable 12-volt source and the exact connection and disconnection instructions for your car.
- Professional help: If you are unsure how to proceed, Hyundai recommends contacting a service technician or towing service.
Safety checks before attempting a jump-start
Jump-starting can be dangerous if done incorrectly. Hyundai’s manual warns about sparks and flames near the battery, battery-acid exposure, and jump-starting a frozen battery. It also instructs users to keep the positive and negative cables from touching. These are warnings from the 2024 Hyundai NE1 manual; consult your own vehicle’s manual for its specific precautions and procedure.

Do not improvise a connection from a drill battery, and do not assume another car’s instructions apply to yours. If the battery is frozen, you cannot identify the correct procedure, or you are uncertain about the equipment, stop and call for professional assistance.
Use the procedure for your exact vehicle
Connection points and cable order can be vehicle-specific. Find the jump-start section in your owner’s manual and follow it for your vehicle’s model and year. The 2024 Hyundai NE1 manual is one example of a manufacturer’s instructions, not a universal sequence. If your manual is unavailable or the instructions are unclear, use a service technician or towing service rather than guessing.
