Lucid has announced an ambition to put Level 4 autonomy in a privately owned consumer car, but it has not announced a retail Lucid with mind-off driving, a firm delivery date, or a price. The near-term plan starts with supervised, eyes-on driving assistance; the hands-free features rolling out to eligible Gravity vehicles in North America still require an attentive driver.
What Lucid has announced for consumer cars
On October 28, 2025, Lucid said it was collaborating with NVIDIA on an autonomy roadmap for the Gravity and upcoming midsize vehicles. The planned first step is eyes-on, point-to-point L2++ driving. Lucid’s longer-term target is Level 4 driving in a consumer-owned vehicle, which it describes as eyes-off, hands-off, and mind-off.
For upcoming midsize models, Lucid said it intends to integrate two NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor computers running DriveOS and use NVIDIA DRIVE AV. The company also described a sensor architecture including cameras, radar, and lidar, with centralized computing and redundant processors. These are announced plans, not confirmation that this hardware is in a retail vehicle or that consumer Level 4 functions are validated and available.
Lucid Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff called the aim “the first true eyes-off, hands-off, and mind-off (L4) consumer owned autonomous vehicle.” That is a company ambition, not an established first or a guarantee. Lucid’s release explicitly says its plans and timing are forward-looking statements, “not intended to serve as, and must not be relied on by any investor as, a guarantee, an assurance, or a definitive statement of fact or probability.”

Lucid’s October 28, 2025 announcement does not provide a firm retail production date, consumer Level 4 price, or market-by-market release schedule.
Can you buy a self-driving Lucid?
There is no announced consumer Lucid with Level 4 autonomy available to buy. Lucid’s consumer Level 4 vehicle remains a future target. Its stated path begins with supervised L2++ driving rather than a car that can drive without a human monitoring the road.

Lucid did announce hands-free driver assistance for the Air and Gravity in July 2025, and in an update dated June 8, 2026, said it had begun rolling out hands-free driving features to Gravity vehicles in North America. Availability depends on the vehicle, its software, the road, and the market. DreamDrive 2 Pro is optional.
Is the Lucid Gravity self-driving?
No. Lucid’s hands-free features are driver assistance, not autonomous or mind-off driving. On compatible highways, Hands-Free Drive Assist can support steering, acceleration, and braking. Hands-Free Lane Change can guide a lane change after the driver signals; Automatic Lane Change may initiate passing maneuvers. Lucid says the announced DreamDrive Pro suite has 32 sensors, but that figure does not establish that every current vehicle or feature uses all of them.

Lucid says drivers must stay focused on the road and surroundings, and that these features do not replace safe, attentive driving or driver judgment. The company states that use is limited to compatible roads indicated in the vehicle and that weather, visibility, and road conditions can affect performance. As Lucid put it in its June 8, 2026 update: “Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist are not a replacement for safe, attentive driving or a driver’s judgment.”
Package and software matter when interpreting the word “hands-free.” Lucid’s 2025 Form 10-K describes Gravity’s standard Drive Assist and Lane Change Assist as Level 2 functions involving hands-on lane centering and driver-initiated lane changes. That is distinct from the optional DreamDrive 2 Pro hands-free features Lucid says are rolling out to eligible North American Gravity vehicles.

Lucid’s July 15, 2025 announcement outlines the hands-free assistance step in its roadmap. The June 8, 2026 Gravity update explains the North American rollout and driver responsibilities. Lucid’s 2025 Form 10-K, filed in 2026, describes the standard Level 2 features.

Lucid’s consumer autonomy roadmap and its robotaxi program are separate efforts. The consumer roadmap concerns future privately owned vehicles and begins with supervised assistance. The robotaxi program is designed for commercial fleets, combines Lucid Gravity vehicles with Nuro’s Level 4 driving system and Uber’s ride-hailing platform, and is intended to provide rides through Uber.

In July 2025, Lucid, Nuro, and Uber set a goal of deploying 20,000 or more vehicles over six years. That is a company target, not a completed deployment. On January 6, 2026, Uber said the partners had unveiled production-intent vehicles and that Nuro-supervised autonomous on-road testing with engineering prototypes began in December 2025. They described a San Francisco Bay Area service launch later in 2026 as expected, with production timing conditional on final validation. Those milestones concern the fleet program, not a consumer car.

- Vehicle and package: Confirm whether the car is a Gravity or another model and whether it has the optional DreamDrive 2 Pro package.
- Software and rollout: Verify that the specific vehicle has received the relevant feature update; a company rollout announcement does not mean every vehicle already has it.
- Road and region: Check the vehicle’s indicated compatible roads and local availability. Lucid’s cited hands-free rollout concerns Gravity vehicles in North America.
