The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a road-going, track-focused Mustang with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, 815 SAE-certified horsepower in the U.S., and a Ford-claimed 202 mph top speed. Its active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes and semi-active inboard rear suspension set it apart from an ordinary Mustang. Ford reported several Nürburgring times for the GTD and a separate Competition variant; those results are not interchangeable.
What is the 2025 Mustang GTD?
Ford presents the GTD as a production Mustang engineered around track performance while remaining a road car. Its name and “supercar” framing point to the combination of high output and specialized chassis and aerodynamic hardware, rather than a separate brand or a claim that it outperforms every conventional supercar.
Ford’s September 2024 announcement called it the most powerful production Mustang and identified the car’s central equipment: active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes and semi-active dampers on an inboard rear suspension. The company describes the aerodynamic system as helping the car reduce drag at speed. These are manufacturer descriptions; they do not, by themselves, establish a quantified advantage over another car.
How much horsepower does the 2025 Mustang GTD have?
Ford lists 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque for the supercharged 5.2-liter V8. The horsepower figure is SAE-certified for the U.S. specification. Ford also claims a maximum speed of 202 mph (325 km/h), with a drag-reduction system helping the car reach top speed. These are Ford-published specifications, not independent instrumented-test results. Ford’s September 2024 specifications and engineering overview.

Ford Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall described the engine this way: “GTD’s heart is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, packing more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.” That is Goodall’s engine-output-per-liter comparison; it should not be read as a claim that the complete GTD is faster or better than the Porsche.
What makes the GTD different from a regular Mustang?
Active aerodynamics
The GTD has active aerodynamic hardware intended to manage drag and performance at speed. Ford identifies drag reduction as part of the system’s role, including in its explanation of the claimed 202 mph top speed. The published material cited here does not quantify the system’s downforce or its effect in a comparable independent test.

Carbon-ceramic brakes
Carbon-ceramic braking hardware is among the GTD’s defining track-oriented components. Ford identifies it as part of the car’s performance package, but the cited specifications do not provide stopping distances or a direct brake-performance comparison.
Semi-active inboard rear suspension
Ford specifies an inboard rear suspension with semi-active dampers. This layout and damper technology distinguish the GTD’s hardware from a standard Mustang setup; Ford’s announcement does not supply a quantified handling improvement that can be applied to all driving conditions.

How fast is the Mustang GTD, and what is its Nürburgring lap time?
Ford’s top-speed claim for the 2025 GTD is 202 mph. Its Nürburgring results need to be read as a dated sequence: Ford reported a baseline GTD lap in December 2024, a quicker result after updates in May 2025, and a still quicker time for the distinct GTD Competition in 2026.
| Date | Car and result | Context reported by Ford |
|---|---|---|
| December 2024 | 2025 Mustang GTD: 6:57.685 | Ford said Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller set the officially certified lap. Ford described it as the first sub-seven-minute lap by a car from an American brand and fifth fastest in the production sports-car class at that time. Ford’s December 2024 lap report. |
| May 2025 | GTD: 6:52.072 | Ford reported this later time after track-proven updates and refinements, describing it as fourth fastest in the production sports-car class. That placement reflects Ford’s report at the time, not a timeless ranking. Ford’s May 2025 lap report. |
| April 2026 | Mustang GTD Competition: 6:40.835 | This is a distinct, separately named variant with additional performance changes, not the baseline 2025 GTD’s lap time. Ford’s current GTD page. |
All three times above are Ford-reported figures. The Competition’s 6:40.835 should not be substituted for the original GTD result when describing the 2025 car.

How much does a Mustang GTD cost, and how many will Ford make?
Ford’s current U.S. GTD page does not publish a price or an exact production total. It says exact numbers are undisclosed, so a definitive U.S. MSRP or total build quantity cannot be established from that page. Ford Mustang GTD.
Availability differs by market and date. In a September 14, 2026 European update, Ford said 500 units were expected in Europe and applications would close October 16, 2026. That is a regional expectation and application window, not a statement of total worldwide production or U.S. availability. Ford Europe’s September 2026 application update.

What the published figures do—and do not—establish
The headline power, torque, top speed and Nürburgring times are claims reported by Ford. The sources cited here do not establish a full set of independent road-test measurements, fuel-economy figures, curb weight, final U.S. price or exact worldwide production volume. Those gaps matter when comparing the GTD with rival cars or estimating ownership costs; they should not be filled with assumptions.
