What was the $150,000 hoverbike offer?
On October 28, 2018, New Atlas reported that Hoversurf had opened reservations for its Hoverbike S3 2019 at a stated price of $150,000, with a $10,000 deposit and deliveries projected for 2019. Those were the terms and forecast reported at the time, not confirmation that deliveries occurred. The International Civil Aviation Organization’s 2020 aviation catalogue also listed the S3 at $150,000. Neither source verifies a current sales offer or price.
So, can you really buy a hoverbike for $150,000? The historical answer is that Hoversurf was reported to be taking reservations at that price in 2018. Whether the S3 is available to order now is not established by these sources.
What was the Hoverbike S3?
The S3 was described as a single-seat, all-electric multirotor with four horizontally mounted propellers. It was not presented as a conventional motorcycle that could simply be ridden on public roads. The ICAO’s 2020 catalogue describes a one-person vehicle built with carbon-fiber technology.

These are historical, source-attributed specifications, not independent test results or proof of a current production model. In particular, the 40-minute figure applied to remote-controlled drone operation; it should not be treated as the S3’s piloted flight time.
Is the $150,000 Hoverbike still available?
Current availability is unconfirmed. New Atlas’s October 2018 report and the ICAO’s 2020 catalogue support the historical price and product description, but they do not confirm that Hoversurf still accepts orders, that production continued, or that the projected 2019 deliveries took place. A buyer would need current confirmation from the manufacturer before treating the S3 as orderable or relying on any price or delivery estimate.

Would it qualify as a U.S. ultralight?
Not automatically. Under 14 CFR §103.1, a powered ultralight must be a single-occupant vehicle intended for recreation or sport and have no U.S. or foreign airworthiness certificate. It must also meet the rule’s specified limits: less than 254 pounds empty weight, subject to listed exclusions; fuel capacity no greater than five U.S. gallons; maximum calibrated airspeed of 55 knots in level flight at full power; and power-off stall speed no greater than 24 knots calibrated airspeed.
The regulation states: “This part prescribes rules governing the operation of ultralight vehicles in the United States.” A report describing a vehicle as an ultralight, or a reported weight and speed alone, does not establish that it meets every Part 103 criterion. The S3’s electric propulsion and reported specifications do not resolve its regulatory classification.

The FAA Aircraft Inquiry is a registry lookup interface, not evidence that a specific S3 was registered, certified, or approved. The FAA says its registry data are updated each federal working day at midnight; a search for a make or model would need to be checked directly and would not, by itself, establish airworthiness approval.

- Whether the endurance and payload figures apply to the offered configuration and operating conditions.
These checks matter because the published $150,000 price, deposit, performance figures, and delivery projection all come from dated reporting or a 2020 catalogue—not a verified current sales specification.
