The Maeving RM1S has a manufacturer-listed top speed of 70 mph, but that does not mean it can travel 70 mph for a useful distance or cover 80 miles on the highway. Its “up to 80 miles” range is a WMTC combined-cycle figure, and Maeving says faster riding reduces the range achieved. The RM1S is designed for urban travel; treat highway use as a trade-off between speed and distance, not as a proven long-distance touring capability.
What does “hits the highway” mean for the RM1S?
The RM1S is a retro-styled electric motorcycle from British maker Maeving. Its headline figures make highway use plausible in the limited sense that it can reach highway speeds: Maeving lists a 70 mph top speed, available in Sport mode. That is a maximum-speed specification, not evidence of sustained cruising performance, highway range, or comfort over long distances.
Maeving describes the RM1S as designed for urban travel. Its range guidance specifically cautions that journeys with a high proportion of higher-speed riding will achieve less than the WMTC figure. So a short faster section may fit the bike’s capability, but the available manufacturer information does not establish how far it will go at a steady highway speed.
What is the range of the RM1S?
Maeving advertises up to 80 miles of combined range for the RM1S, based on the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC). The company says the cycle has three equal phases—urban, rural and motorway riding—and presents the homologation-based result as a representative, comparable figure. It is still a test-cycle result, not a promise of 80 miles in every riding condition. Maeving RM1S specifications and Maeving’s range explanation provide the manufacturer’s figures and methodology.
#1 Best Overall
- Motocross frame geometry integrates high-performance features and premium components
- 6000W (Peak power) brushless motor
- 60V lithium-ion battery pack UL2271 compliant, this bike effortlessly reaches speeds of up to 47 mph (75.6 km/h). Not all 60V systems are created equal. Our spec will surprise you with speed and power right out of the box!
- The throttle has been factory tuned in coordination with the 3-speed high-output controller, providing riders with the flexibility to select Sport mode for maximum power and output, Drive mode for a well-balanced performance, or Low mode for an economical and efficient ride
- Curated components for motocross enthusiasts include aluminum tapered bars, Fastace dual rate shock with adjustable compression and rebound damping, Fastace hydraulic coil sprung inverted forks, hydraulic 8-inch disc brakes, and motocross-style seat
Maeving says achievable range can fall with higher speeds, hills, temperature, rider weight and riding style. In practice, the 80-mile figure should not be used as a highway-distance estimate: faster riding is one of the factors the manufacturer identifies as reducing range, and no independently measured sustained-highway range is established here.
Other manufacturer range figures
Maeving’s US specification page gives additional mode-specific estimates. These are also manufacturer figures, not independent road-test results.
| Mode or measure | Manufacturer figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| WMTC combined range | Up to 80 miles | Combined test-cycle figure; real-world range varies with riding conditions. |
| Mode 1 | Up to 90 miles | Limited to 45 mph, according to Maeving’s US specifications. |
| Sport mode | Up to 52 miles | Manufacturer estimate; Maeving says Sport mode allows maximum speed with no range optimisation. |
The mode-specific estimates and the combined WMTC figure describe different conditions, so they should not be treated as interchangeable. For maximum speed, Maeving says Sport mode is required: “On the RM1S and RM2, Sport (S) mode allows the bike to reach its maximum speed of 70 mph, with no optimisation for range.” Maeving’s speed guidance makes the speed-versus-range trade-off explicit.

- Power: 7.2 kW continuous and 11.1 kW peak.
- Maximum torque: 93 ft-lb (260 Nm), as listed by Maeving.
- Battery: 5.46 kWh dual pack using LG M50LT cells.
- Road-ready unladen weight: 311 lb (141 kg).
- Top speed: 70 mph, with Sport mode required for maximum speed.
These figures help describe the motorcycle, but they do not answer how it performs during a particular highway trip. The published material does not provide an independently measured highway range or sustained-speed test.
How does charging work?
The RM1S can be charged through its onboard port from a standard outlet. Maeving also offers an optional dock for charging removed batteries from an outlet, and an optional Type 2 adapter for compatible public charging stations. The dock and adapter are accessories, not the same thing as a claim that every public charger is compatible. See Maeving’s accessories information for the manufacturer’s listed options.
Maeving’s US specification page lists these charging times:
| Charge interval | Listed time |
|---|---|
| 0–100% | 6.5 hours |
| 20–80% | 2.75 hours |
| 20–100% | 4 hours |
Those are the figures listed on the US page; charging time at a particular outlet may depend on the charging setup. For battery charging, Maeving’s US owner handbook states: “Only use the official charger supplied by Maeving to charge your battery.” The owner-manuals page is the manufacturer source for its handbook.

Is the RM1S a sensible choice for your route?
The key question is not simply whether the RM1S can reach highway speed, but how much of your regular route requires it to do so and what charging options you have at each end. Its urban-focused design and range guidance make it easier to assess against a real commute than against the headline 70 mph figure alone.
- Mostly urban riding: The stated design focus and lower-speed mode range figures are more relevant than the top-speed headline.
- Occasional short faster stretches: The listed 70 mph maximum establishes that the bike can reach that speed in Sport mode; it does not establish a dependable distance at that speed.
- Frequent or long highway runs: Do not plan around the up-to-80-mile WMTC figure as highway range. The cited manufacturer information does not establish a sustained-highway distance, so seek route-specific guidance from Maeving before relying on it.
- Charging away from home: Check whether the optional Type 2 adapter and your intended charging locations are compatible; otherwise, plan around the standard-outlet charging method.
Which market’s price and licence guidance applies?
Maeving’s UK page lists a starting price of £7,495 and says the RM1S is CBT eligible. Its US page lists a starting price from $9,995 and specifies an M1 licence. These are market-specific manufacturer listings, not a single global price or licensing rule. Prices and availability can change; check the relevant current UK or US sales page, and confirm local licensing requirements before riding.
A BikeMatters launch review published on May 10, 2024 also reported a 70 mph top speed, up to 80 miles of range and a £7,495 launch starting price, describing the RM1S as a step up from the RM1. That is launch-era coverage, not a current price check. BikeMatters’ review gives that dated context.
