That is 300 pounds above Chevrolet’s published 8,400-pound maximum for the 2025 Tahoe and 500 pounds above the 2025 Suburban’s 8,200-pound maximum. This compares different model years and manufacturer-stated ceilings, not every trim or a specific loaded vehicle.

By those figures, the equipped Durango’s stated maximum is 300 pounds higher than the Tahoe’s and 500 pounds higher than the Suburban’s. The ratings are published by the manufacturers; they are not the results of an independent towing test.
Why the Tow N Go configuration matters
The 8,700-pound rating applies to a specific Durango setup, not to every R/T or every Durango. Dodge’s 2026 owner’s manual lists the 5.7L AWD R/T Tow N Go at 8,700 pounds, while the 5.7L AWD configuration without the R/T Tow N Go designation is listed at 7,200 pounds. Check the exact vehicle configuration and its documentation rather than relying on the R/T badge alone.
Dodge identifies a Class IV trailer hitch and integrated trailer brake control as Tow N Go equipment. Its Durango performance page also lists package features including Bilstein active damping suspension, an electronic limited-slip rear axle, performance exhaust, configurable drive modes, and Pirelli Scorpion Zero run-flat tires. The maximum rating belongs to the properly equipped vehicle as a whole; adding an aftermarket hitch or other component does not raise a vehicle’s certified tow rating.

What the maximum rating does—and does not—tell you
Account for tongue weight and payload
The owner’s manual specifies a maximum trailer tongue weight of 870 pounds for the 5.7L AWD R/T Tow N Go. Tongue weight counts toward the vehicle’s combined occupants-and-cargo load. Passengers, luggage, options, and accessories use available capacity, so a vehicle may need a lower tongue load and lower trailer weight than the headline maximum.
Use the exact Tahoe or Suburban rating
Chevrolet describes its Tahoe and Suburban figures as maximum towing capacities and cautions that passengers, cargo, options, and accessories can reduce how much a particular vehicle can tow. The 8,400- and 8,200-pound figures are therefore comparison ceilings, not guarantees for every 2025 example.

Compare against the trailer as loaded
For a real towing decision, compare the trailer’s actual loaded weight with the rating for the specific vehicle, then account for occupants, cargo, tongue weight, and equipment. The headline figures alone cannot establish whether a particular loaded trailer is within a vehicle’s limits.
