There is no verified evidence that Tesla’s next-generation Roadster can fly. Elon Musk’s reported remarks describe a teased prototype demonstration, not confirmed flight capability or a production specification. As of October 4, 2026, the latest reported date for the Roadster 2 reveal is October 15, after Tesla postponed an October 1 event because of predicted severe weather.
What Musk reportedly said about a flying Roadster
In an October 2025 interview with Joe Rogan, Musk said Tesla was close to demonstrating a prototype and called the planned demo “unforgettable,” according to The Information. The publication also reported that Musk linked talk of a flying car to the Roadster and described the prototype as having “some crazy technology.”

When is the Roadster 2 demo?
TechCrunch reported on September 28, 2026, that Tesla postponed the planned October 1 outdoor reveal until October 15, citing predicted severe weather and the fact that the event could only be held outdoors. October 15 is still a future date as of October 4, so the demonstration’s outcome is not yet known.

The reveal date is not a delivery date. TechCrunch reported that Musk expected production to take a year or more after the eventual reveal; that is a reported expectation, not a firm schedule. The publication also notes that Tesla introduced the second-generation Roadster concept in 2017, took reservations, and has repeatedly delayed the project. Read TechCrunch’s report on the postponement.

Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOLs, are an existing aircraft category associated with flying-car concepts. That context does not make the Roadster an aircraft: the available coverage supplies no flight-test results, aircraft specifications, certification information, or like-for-like performance comparison for Tesla’s teased prototype.

The Information’s aviation-focused coverage reports expert skepticism about the flying-Roadster tease, but the reporting does not resolve what Musk meant by “flying” or establish a working design. Until Tesla demonstrates and describes the capability, it is more accurate to treat “flying Roadster” as a claim teased around a prototype demo—not as a verified feature buyers can expect. The Information’s aviation-focused report discusses that skepticism.
