Yes—but the demonstrations so far are for heavy-duty electric trucks, not ordinary passenger EVs. Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Siemens each reported a 1-megawatt prototype test in April 2024. Those results show that megawatt-scale charging is technically achievable; they do not mean a truck draws that much power throughout a session, or that every battery can accept it.
What “one megawatt” means
A megawatt (MW) is 1,000 kilowatts (kW), a measure of power: the rate at which energy is transferred. A report that a charger reached 1 MW describes a power level during a test. By itself, it does not say how long that level lasted or how much energy entered the battery.
To understand a charging claim, look for the vehicle, the starting and ending state of charge, and the elapsed time—not just the charger’s peak rating. The company-reported examples below include some charging windows, but they do not provide a single, comparable charging curve for all trucks.
What has actually been demonstrated?
Mercedes-Benz Trucks: 1,000 kW prototype test
On April 22, 2024, Mercedes-Benz Trucks reported that developers charged an eActros 600 prototype at 1,000 kW at the company’s development and testing center in Wörth am Rhein. The company described further work on communications and prototype components needed to bring the technology to series maturity. It said the eActros 600 had battery capacity above 600 kWh and was intended to support 1,000 kW MCS charging once available; that intended capability should not be confused with the prototype test or assumed for every production vehicle. Siemens: separate 1 MW pilot
On April 24, 2024, Siemens said its prototype SICHARGE MCS station completed a 1 MW pilot with a prototype long-haul electric truck from an unnamed manufacturer. Siemens also said typical electric-truck batteries could charge from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes at a suitable station with output around 1 MW. That is a company description of a particular context, not a guarantee for every truck or charging session. Siemens’ pilot announcement.
MAN and ABB: above 700 kW, with a higher system ceiling
MAN Truck & Bus and ABB E-mobility reported a prototype truck charging above 700 kW at 1,000 A, including a 10%–80% session in around half an hour. They describe the MCS system as designed for up to 3.75 MW at 3,000 A. The 3.75 MW figure is a system capability, not the rate shown in that demonstration and not a typical rate established for a particular truck. MAN and ABB’s demonstration report.

Milence: public event demonstration in 2026
Milence reported that Daimler Truck, MAN Truck & Bus, and Scania demonstrated MCS at IAA TRANSPORTATION in September 2026. The company said vehicles reached 80% charge or a full charge within scheduled 30–45-minute driver rest breaks. This later event demonstration is distinct from the earlier 1 MW prototype tests; the report does not establish that every vehicle charged at 1 MW. Milence also quoted MAN’s Jürgen Wagner as saying that, since July, MAN had been fitting MCS charging technology as standard for customers wishing to adopt it early. That is the manufacturer’s statement as reported by Milence, not an independently audited availability claim. Milence’s event report.
Why a charger rated for megawatts may deliver less to the battery
MCS charging is a coordinated process between the charging equipment and the vehicle. CharIN’s Version 2.0 recommendations, dated April 11, 2025, describe the EVSE (the charging equipment) communicating its current and voltage limits. Under ISO 15118-20, the vehicle controls the current it requests. The recommendations assign responsibility for temperature limits to both sides: the vehicle manages its own limits, while the EVSE manages those of its equipment, cable, and connector. - [AT-A-GLANCE CHARGING COMMAND: TOTAL CONTROL, INSTANTLY] While most ev chargers solutions confine vital data to in-car screens, the Raylix tesla charger breaks free with its enhanced TFT color display. This Raylix-exclusive feature delivers crystal-clear, real-time updates—voltage, current, power load, AND critical charging temperature—directly on the unit. Just one glance gives you complete charging insight. It’s not just information; it's the empowering peace of mind and satisfying control that transforms every charge into a masterfully managed experience.
So a charger’s maximum output does not establish the power the battery will accept at every moment. The vehicle’s charge controls and thermal limits matter alongside the charger, cable, and connector ratings. The cited reports do not establish one universal charging curve or a single point at which all truck batteries reduce power.
What MCS is designed to do
The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) targets heavy-duty battery-electric vehicles, especially long-haul trucks. Scania contrasts it with current truck CCS2 charging, which it says typically reaches 350–400 kW. MCS’s headline maximum is therefore a system capability, not a promise that a particular truck will charge at that rate. Scania’s MCS overview.

The durable IP65-rated waterproof housing and reinforced cable ensure reliable charging in all weather conditions, keeping your vehicle safe year-round.
The intended operational benefit is to replenish a truck during a planned en-route stop, such as a driver rest break, rather than rely only on longer depot or destination charging. Scania describes a long-haul example with 4.5 hours of driving followed by a 45-minute rest, and says MCS can charge from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. That figure is Scania’s description, not a universal promise across vehicles, routes, or conditions. Whether MCS is useful on a particular route also depends on compatible charging locations being available where the truck needs them. Scania’s MCS overview; Milence’s 2026 demonstration report.

- Charger output versus vehicle acceptance: Is the number the charger’s rating or power the vehicle actually accepted?
- Charging window and time: What were the starting and ending states of charge, and how long did the session take?
- Demonstration status: Was it a prototype test, an event demonstration, or charging with commercially available equipment?
- Vehicle and charger pairing: Were both sides compatible, and what thermal limits applied?
- Route access: Are compatible MCS stations available along the freight corridor in question?
The best-supported answer is therefore specific: megawatt-scale charging has been demonstrated with prototype heavy-duty trucks, and MCS is designed for this vehicle class. Those demonstrations do not show that passenger EVs can charge at a megawatt, that every truck can do so, or that any vehicle sustains peak power through an entire session.
