Not indefinitely. A Cybertruck can store energy and send it to a home or other compatible loads, but using that energy does not replace it. Tesla says Powershare Home Backup can supply up to 11.5 kW for over three days; actual runtime depends on household demand and the battery reserve you set. For a prolonged outage, you still need a way to recharge the truck.
Can a Cybertruck power your house during an outage?
Yes, if the truck, home equipment, region and software are compatible. Tesla’s Powershare system sends energy from the Cybertruck’s battery to a home. Tesla describes a maximum home-backup draw of 11.5 kW and says the system can provide backup for over three days. Those are Tesla’s stated figures, not a guarantee for every household: runtime varies with electrical demand and the battery’s configured discharge limit. See Tesla’s Powershare support page.
The owner’s manual says backup stops when the battery reaches the Powershare discharge limit. That limit matters if you need to keep enough charge for driving or a trip to a working charger. The manual also cautions that a home may briefly lose power as the Cybertruck begins supplying backup, and may lose power for several seconds when grid power returns. See Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s Manual.
What equipment does Powershare Home Backup require?
Whole-home backup is an installed system, not simply a cable plugged into the truck. Tesla’s described configuration uses a Powershare Gateway and a Universal Wall Connector; the exact arrangement depends on the home energy system. Tesla recommends that the charging station be connected to a 240 V circuit. The Powershare Home Backup Bundle is intended for this use, but verify equipment compatibility and availability for your home and region before buying or installing anything.

Tesla’s manual lists vehicle firmware 2024.14 or later and Tesla app version 4.31.0 or higher for backup without a Powerwall. Powerwall configurations may require a higher app version. The manual says the service is not available in Mexico. Requirements and availability can change, so check Tesla’s current regional support information and your specific equipment. Tesla’s August 17, 2026 explainer notes that the truck’s inverter converts battery DC into AC for home appliances and the grid: “Powershare Helps You Get More from Your Cybertruck”.
Tesla says the app’s “Go Off-Grid” feature disconnects the home from the grid. Its support materials also describe solar panels or Solar Roof as ways to support vehicle charging and home energy in systems configured for that purpose. Solar is not, by itself, proof that a particular installation will keep supplying power during an outage; confirm the system design with a qualified installer. Tesla says trained Certified Installers install its home energy and charging products.

How does home backup compare with using the truck’s outlets?
| Use | What it can do | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Powershare Home Backup | Supplies a compatible home system; Tesla states a maximum draw of 11.5 kW. | Gateway, Wall Connector, home electrical configuration, region, vehicle software, app version and discharge limit. |
| 120 V outlet use | Tesla describes using a Mobile Connector and Tesla Outlet Adapter on applicable Cybertruck configurations, up to 20 A. | Confirm that the vehicle and accessories support this setup in your market; it is not the same as an installed whole-home backup system. |
| Charging another EV | Tesla’s Puerto Rico page describes a Mobile Connector plugged into the truck-bed 240 V outlet, rated there at 9.6 kW and up to 30 miles of range per hour. | This is a market-specific Tesla description. Do not assume the rating or setup applies to every trim or region; verify the vehicle and accessory configuration. |
Outlet power can be useful for selected devices or another vehicle, but it should not be treated as equivalent to powering a whole home. The outlet details above are from Tesla’s support information and Tesla’s Puerto Rico Powershare page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you use a Cybertruck without Superchargers?
You do not necessarily need a Supercharger specifically: a compatible home charger, another suitable charging source, or a properly designed solar-supported system may recharge the vehicle. But stored energy is finite. Powershare transfers energy out of the battery; it does not create energy, and the Tesla materials cited here do not establish a universally available, standalone method for recharging a Cybertruck indefinitely off-grid.

For a long outage, plan both the household load and the vehicle’s next charge. Decide how much battery to reserve for driving, identify a verified charging source, and check whether your home’s energy equipment can operate as intended without the grid. Tesla’s “over three days” statement is a manufacturer estimate, not proof that every home will run for that long or that the truck can sustain an indefinite emergency.
