No reliable public price for an individual civilian purchase or private operating cost is established here. The available dollar figures are government package estimates, not prices for one jet.
Has a private company owned an F-16?
Yes. Top Aces said it received its first four F-16s in January 2021 to support a U.S. Air Force contracted air-support role. In a May 19, 2021 announcement, the company said it had become “the first private company in the world to own and operate a fourth-generation fighter aircraft.” That is Top Aces’ own description, tied to its contracted training work—not an independent census of private aircraft operators. Top Aces’ announcement
The Federal Aviation Administration’s registry lists an F-16A registered to Top Aces Corp. The entry classifies that aircraft as experimental and in the crew-training category. The FAA cautions that registry information alone does not determine whether an aircraft is airworthy. FAA Aircraft Inquiry: N856TA
Does that mean an individual can readily buy one?
No. The contractor example shows that private-company ownership is possible in a specific operational context; it does not establish an open retail market or a straightforward route for an individual buyer. Top Aces’ aircraft were associated with an adversary-training business and a U.S. Air Force contract.

- IFF antenna array in front of the cockpit distinguishes this CCIP-equipped model from other F-16s.
- Curved form of the F-16 accurately reproduced with trademark Tamiya precision.
- Moveable horizontal stabilizers. "Flaperons" can be modelled in the up or down positions.
- Full ordnance load including AGM-88 HARM, AIM-120C AMRAAM, AIM-9M/X Sidewinder, ECM pod, and fuel tanks included.
- Centerline and inner wing pylons as well as tail assembly feature polycaps to allow easy detachment for storage.
U.S.-origin defense equipment transfers are subject to government oversight. The State Department describes both government-to-government Foreign Military Sales and commercial export licensing, alongside government review. That overview establishes a controlled arms-transfer framework, but it does not decide whether a hypothetical individual buyer could obtain every approval needed for a particular aircraft, destination, and intended use. What do the published F-16 price figures actually cover?
Recent Defense Security Cooperation Agency notices provide context for the scale of official F-16 programs, but neither is a single-aircraft price or an offer to a private buyer.

| Possible sale | DSCA estimate | What the estimate covers |
|---|---|---|
| Peru, September 15, 2025 | $3.42 billion | A possible Foreign Military Sale involving 12 new F-16C/D Block 70 aircraft and related equipment and support. DSCA notice |
| Philippines, April 1, 2025 | $5.58 billion | A possible F-16 package that includes aircraft and associated articles and services. DSCA notice |
These are proposed government-package estimates, not completed transactions or commercial listings. The packages bundle aircraft with other equipment, services, training, or support; their contents differ. Dividing either total by its aircraft count would not produce a defensible civilian unit price.

No reliable public individual-civilian purchase price or private-owner operating-cost estimate is established here. The cited government notices do not provide a price for an individual airframe, and the reviewed sources do not support a private owner’s hourly or annual operating budget. A precise personal ownership total would therefore be speculation, not a figure supported by these sources.

What can a prospective buyer conclude?
- Private-company ownership has precedent: Top Aces’ contractor operation and the FAA registration entry document a specific example.
- That precedent is not a consumer sales path: the aircraft were used in contracted military training, and U.S. defense transfers involve government review.
- The available billions-of-dollars figures are bundled government estimates: they cannot be presented as the cost of one F-16.
- A civilian acquisition price and private operating budget remain unestablished: the cited sources do not support a reliable estimate for either.
