The Cadillac tie-in was a promotional short, distinct from the feature film itself. Contemporary coverage described a promotional video built around Ari’s return to Hollywood after retiring to Italy, and an earlier trailer featuring Johnny “Drama” Chase with the Ciel. The same report noted that the Escalade and ELR also appear in the film; they are supporting Cadillac appearances, not the concept car at the center of this story.
What is the Cadillac Ciel?
Cadillac unveiled the Ciel concept at Pebble Beach on August 18, 2011. It was an open-air, four-seat grand-touring convertible inspired by the California coast, not a model announced for customer production. Cadillac says “Ciel” is pronounced “C-L” and is French for “sky.”

Cadillac global design director Clay Dean described the concept’s intent: “Large, expressive luxury is innate to Cadillac and the Ciel recalls that heritage, while suggesting where the brand can go in the future.” He also said, “Authentic luxury is driven by experiences, not just products, and Ciel is about the experience of the journey.” Both statements appear in Cadillac’s 2011 announcement.

The Ciel was a real Cadillac-built concept car, but it was not a production model offered for sale. Cadillac’s 2016 account describes the film car as a sleek black four-seat convertible with suicide doors and notes its 2011 Pebble Beach debut. Jerry Ferrara, who played Turtle, captured the distinction: “It’s kind of cool to say we drove a car that doesn’t exist in the world.”

The available Cadillac announcement does not provide a complete engine or performance specification, so figures sometimes repeated in secondary archival coverage should not be treated here as confirmed specifications. The key point for viewers is the car’s role and design: a dramatic concept, used to give the film’s story an unmistakable luxury-car presence.
