BYD’s Racco is on sale in Japan, and an October 6, 2026 report says the kei-class electric vehicle is also headed for Sri Lanka and Macau. The report says Macau order books are open and Sri Lanka’s launch is planned for October 9. Those export-market details have not been confirmed in the BYD or local-distributor announcements reviewed, so local prices, specifications and delivery arrangements remain unknown.
Where and when is BYD Racco launching?
BYD Auto Japan began domestic sales of the Racco through authorized dealers on July 28, 2026. The company had introduced an information site on February 16, describing the vehicle as purpose-built for Japan’s kei-car regulations and targeting summer sales.
For markets outside Japan, a CarNewsChina report published October 6, citing IT Home and Nikkei Asia, says BYD plans to sell the Racco in Sri Lanka and Macau. It reports that Macau order books have opened and that a Sri Lanka launch is planned for October 9, 2026. These remain reported plans rather than confirmed local retail details; no primary BYD or local distributor announcement establishing those specifics was identified.
What is confirmed about the Japan-market Racco?
BYD describes the Racco as a battery-electric kei-class vehicle with a tall body and standard sliding doors. Its February announcement described front-wheel drive and development targets of more than 200 km for the standard specification and more than 300 km for the long-range specification. Those were targets, not final range figures.

In its July 28 sales announcement, BYD listed a two-model, three-grade lineup and a published full-charge range of 210–320 km. This is the manufacturer’s stated figure, not an independent real-world test result. BYD listed the Japan-market Racco 200 at a manufacturer price of ¥2,145,000.

Will the Japan specifications carry over to Sri Lanka or Macau?
That is not established. BYD’s Japan-market dimensions are 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,800 mm high, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase. These figures describe the Japan-market vehicle and should not be assumed to apply to export versions. Local range certification, charging interface, available grades, warranty and delivery terms also need confirmation from BYD or the authorized distributor in each market.

What should prospective buyers verify?
Before placing an order or relying on a launch date, ask the local BYD distributor to confirm the details for the specific market and vehicle:
- Whether orders are being accepted locally and when deliveries are expected.
- Local price, taxes and the grades actually offered.
- Certified range and charging connector for that market.
- Warranty coverage and the servicing arrangements for the vehicle.
CarNewsChina also reported more than 2,000 orders since the Japan launch. That figure is secondary reporting, not an independently verified sales total.
