Reuters reported that the first sales batch covered 21 models, with the Seagull—the lowest-priced model named—starting at 69,800 yuan at the time. The “Tesla-like” comparison describes the broad category, not proof that the systems share features or performance: the reported highway navigation required a human driver’s supervision.
What BYD announced in February 2025
At a Shenzhen event on February 10, BYD founder Wang Chuanfu announced the God’s Eye driver-assistance system. Reuters reported that BYD was equipping all BYD-branded models priced above 100,000 yuan and adding three models below that threshold. The reported initial sales batch comprised 21 models, with sales beginning after the event.

The named low-cost example was the Seagull, whose reported China-market starting price was 69,800 yuan at launch. That is an announcement-era price, not a current quote or a price established for other countries. TechCrunch cited remote parking by smartphone and highway navigation as example functions.

What “Tesla-like” means—and what it does not
Here, “Tesla-like” is a broad comparison to driver-assistance systems, not a claim that BYD and Tesla offer identical technology. The available reporting does not provide a feature-by-feature technical comparison or comparative performance testing. It does report that highway navigation operated under human driver supervision.

That distinction matters: the announcement describes supervised driver assistance, not proof that a car can drive itself without a person monitoring it. A driver should not infer hands-free or driverless capability from the rollout announcement or the phrase “autonomous driving.”
BYD’s May 2026 update: optional LiDAR version and China offer
In a May 28, 2026 company release, BYD said its entire vehicle lineup could optionally be equipped with a God’s Eye LiDAR version. “Optionally” is important: the statement does not establish that every model has the same hardware as standard equipment, nor does it confirm availability outside China.

The same release described one year of Full Damage Coverage for Urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA), subject to users operating in compliance with regulations. BYD said the offer applied in China to new buyers and existing owners upgrading to God’s Eye 5.0. These are company-stated offer terms, not evidence of a global offer or a guarantee that every vehicle is eligible.

What a buyer should check before comparing systems
The announcement and later company release do not establish current fitment, prices, or country-by-country availability. For a specific vehicle, check the local BYD listing or ask a local dealer which system version and hardware are fitted, what functions are enabled, and what supervision the driver must provide.
- Functions: distinguish parking assistance, highway navigation, and city navigation rather than treating them as one capability.
- Supervision: confirm when the driver must monitor the road and remain responsible for control.
- Hardware and trim: ask whether sensors such as LiDAR are standard, optional, or unavailable on the exact configuration.
- Market and rules: check that the feature is offered in your country and permitted under local regulations.
- Price: compare the complete vehicle and option price, not only the launch-era starting price of a China-market model.
The sources support a broad China-market rollout and a later BYD-stated optional LiDAR offering, but not a like-for-like ranking of God’s Eye against Tesla’s system on safety or performance.
